What is the most abusive thing a hs coach ever said to you?

My high school coach wasn't the best coach in terms of training planning, but I will say he was a great motivator. At times he was very harsh, but I'd hardly call that abusive because that is what we needed. He did love to make jokes at our expense. I don't think that is abusive, especially since we gave it back.

"Boy ... you look like a wad of chewed up bubble gum." Football coach, but what the hell.

"What's the matter, you only have one nut?" A basketball coach after I got a rebound ripped out of my hands (in a summer league game). No positive results from the comment.

"Close the door Derek, now dont take this the wrong way....if you don't start making an effort, in ten years time you will be working at Asda (wall mart) regretting not giving 100%. And you will spend all your free time on the Letsrun forum posting crap, making out you know running....when you don't!!!"

Our high-school freshman-team (American) football coach, who had it in for us linemen; we were second-class citizens to backs and receivers. The coach would make the whole team do catching and running drills, seemingly just to embarrass the "hogs" when they, naturally, couldn't duplicate the best performances.

I could handle stereotypical football coaching behavior when it came to not performing, listening, or learning, but not name-calling for no reason. Coach called me "Donkey", and others "Baby," and (not a typo) "Stump on a Log."

I attended an affluent high school. My football coach once called a few of the kids on the team "a bunch of yahoos." The coach was forced to apologize the next day, and then he was fired when the kids communicated that they did not accept his apology.

Crappy local coach: "You don't deserve to be on this team" to the #1 girls distance runner in the school/county. Particular coach can't keep girls on the team. The good ones end up leaving for other sports. The great ones avoid the school altogether.

two days before meet: emailed my coach his precious note that i would be leaving the meet early for a prom. No big deal, right? anyway, never got a response.

day before: reminded my coach that I was only running the 16, not doubling the 32 as well, since i had to leave. "oh right, right, remember districts is 4:30 for the mile, you shouldn't have any problems as long as the first lap isn't too slow"

(I'm one of the better mid D guys in my area, only the second kid from my school to be committed D1 in track in 20 years, etc.)

morning of: "hey coach, just wanted to remind you that I'm leaving early today with my parents, like i emailed you"

And he goes on this five minute diatribe in front of my stunned face and few of my amazed friends. asked whether i cared about track at all, why some kids weren't warming up (this is 8am at a HS meet and they're running the 4x4 dude, relax they have 8 hours), how he would strip me of my captaincy for not riding the bus (we had four captains for this reason), why i would not be supporting my teammates in their races for a **censored** prom of ALL THINGS.

Mumbled something about an apology and said i had to go "warm up" and get other people to "warm up", and tried to walk out of earshot so my friends and I could start howling with laughter at the outburst.

The best part? after the race: "good job, enjoy that prom!!!"

Wasn't my coach, but a coach of another team.

It's an indoor meet and for some reason a girl is running in the Boys 3200.

She's battling another boy from our conference for last place, going neck and neck switching the lead for 14 laps.

With two laps to go his coach yells at him "If you're going to run with her that long you better at least get her phone number!"

He asked for the most abusive thing. Some of our coaches were kind as daisies so they didn't say awful things to the team.

at a XC meet on a golf course, chased # 5 guy around yelling at him, when he blew up "you're blowing it! you're supposed to be all everything and you're blowing it!, WTF are you doing!"

During workouts if people were falling off the pack he would stand right at the end of a repeat and donald trump style point his fingers when each one crossed the line "you're done, you're done, you're done" getting more and more animated each time.

When I was 9 or 10 of my hockey coaches asked "Did you take your stupid pills this morning?"

After losing a game 7-2 (I had both goals) against a team that was ranked 21st in the country, he came in the the player of the game trophy thing that every team got for each game (it was a tournament) and yelled at us and said we all played like sh*t and that no one deserved it and threw it as hard as he could through the garbage can.

A different hockey coach also broke some kids stick after saying we played like sh*t hitting it as hard as he could on the wall above kids heads where they were sitting.

This isn't abusive but it's funny. One game we were playing this team in California (we're from Ohio) and it was there home rink and the refs were being awful and one of our coaches started screaming at the refs like "are you f**king kidding me, do you guys have your heads up your a**es or something" to which the ref responded "do you want to go" (as in get thrown out) and our coach (who was a pretty big muscular dude) was like hell yeah I want to go (as in fight) and started walking towards the ref like he was going to fight him and the ref all terrified pointed to the door and told him to leave. There were also like scouts for the refs at this game to see about calling them up and the scouts yelled at the refs for abusing there power.Our other coach on this team got thrown out of a different game for throwing a cone at kid who was on a breakaway to try and trip him.

Hockey coaches are the best.

No, I'm anorexic now, with low iron count and miss my period sometimes, because of it. I throw up after lunch and dinner and think of that coach when i do but thanks for your sympathy.

If one guy calling you fat is enough to cause all that, you've got bigger self-confidence issues.

Nuh-uh. That coach was booted for backroom political reasons; what you saw and what the district used as justification is just a facade. He was on somebody's sh*t list and the administration was just waiting for an opportunity to can him.
