We have spoken to Jill Geer, Communications person for USATF. She said they will not be re-running the race (although we aren't sure it's her decision).
Montano said that she did not initiate anything -- she said that Martinez clipped her as she lost balance in front of her and then said that someone else behind her made contact with her, which led to her falling down.
Montano was out of control. Weirdly running outside of lane one and letting Rogers through, then tries to scrabble through the mess she made, taking down Brenda in the process. Then the real craziness comes out. Yechh.
From the screen shot it is apparent that BMart got clipped by Montano, didn't tag Wilson. Also a certified miracle that Grace won it from that point.
Montano was tired. She ran in the lead, pre-baby baller mode, but didn't have that fitness here. Not sure she had awareness either, as she was running well off the rail and even let Ravyn ROgers take her on the inside, there was so much room. Everyone was going around her at 250 to go, inside, outside. She runs kinda bow legged too so someone could have snuck up through there, I'm sure
So, the last 150, dog tired, losing her mind with fatigue and RISING emotion, she lost her perceptual awareness, and clips BMART, as her emotional side overtook everything.
Most importantly, BMARTS shot.
Can we not take 4? You can't re-run the race... Grace and the other girls would be destroyed in the re-run due to the emotional roller coaster. Would be totally unfair.

Phoebe Wright was unaffected by fouls and is eliminated.
Watch the reply. Am I the only one who think BMART got WAY to close to the leaders on the inside. Had a misstep causing her to clip Montano.

Montano is correct. As I suggested on the Day 4 thread, watch the replay on NBC Olympics' Facebook page. Martinez was the first one who tripped when she was trying to get past Wilson. Then Martinez flailed to regain balance, which tripped up Montano. Not at all excusing Montano's ensuing theatrics, nor NBC's choice to show her entire sordid final 200m. However, it looked like it was Martinez who initiated that train wreck.
All I can think is -- what a shame. Brenda was the class of the field and would have most likely mowed them all down. At the very least she would have been top 3. You knew Montano was done by pushing too hard at the end of lap one. She was smoked and knew it. What a shame.

Watch the replay at 1:35.4 you can clearly (to me) see Montano run up behind Martinez and clip her foot starting a chain reaction. Martinez was knocked out of the race and Ludlow lost most of her momentum. I'm guessing the finishing order would have been Martinez, Grace, Wilson and then Ludlow.

Alternatively, I don't believe Montano did anything out of malice; it's a tense and hectic period. No one is thinking straight with 100m left of trials. She made a mistake, but I feel like the best thing to do would be rerun the race. It's only fair.
