Bad call! First. Engles is on the inside 4th or 5th place, that's bad positioning going into the final straight.
Second, Johnson defintely moved out, making Walker need to move in to find a clear line to the finish. Same exact reason as Engles to cutting in.
Third, Engles is a 1:46.13 guy... he is not part of our best team. Shaq W is the #3 guy in the trials, and the #2 with Braizer out... (according to the Letsrun list). Shaq has the A-Standard and has much better marks than Engles, we should have kept him in the Trials as well. He has a better shot of doing better in the Olympic Games than Engles. The Trials are about sending our best 3, period.
Lesson should have been... Don't get on the inside lane in the mid pack, you may not get a lane to run free. Shaq got clipped on the heels.

Yep. If it were Murphy, he'd be out. But with all the PC crap going on, Walker has a great chance to get dropped in, even though he showed he doesn't recover well on short rest. With 50+ hours to rest, he'll be fine if they give him his undeserved shot.
Berian should win the final. What a story he's been. The rest is up for grabs, although Murphy's tactical sense shows that the only way to keep him out might be to make the final super fast. And that may not be enough.
Berian is taking it out fast and when he fades with 150 to go, Murphy wins it
I read the recap before the replay so i knew who was already in the 9 man final and it's straight up BS. I honestly cant believe they sided with Engels, it didnt look intentional at all and now they have this scrub in the final
Where can we watch replays?
There is an interview with about every 800m guy but Walker, why is that?

Walker did not have room, and cut right in on Engels, forcing him to the railing and almost onto the infield, which is what caused the collision.

In reviewing falls, trips, etc and determining who should advance or not advance.... A persons PR's, past accolades, or ability to be in the top 3 should NOT be considered. Do we really want USATF making such judgements? The incident should be reviewed based on the rules and extensive review of the videos from all angles. Saying things like runner x was the # 2 ranked guy and runner y was fading or runner z has the A standard.... Or even worse runner A is a Nike guy.... All of these really shouldn't have a bearing on the decisions to advance or not advance. Throw out the names and call them runner x, y, z, etc and then, based on the rules and what happened, determine the DQ's, adVancers on appeal, etc

Walker did not cause the collision. He had already made his move to lane one. Engels found that he could no longer get thru that way (not that he had anything left for the finish) and then he cut to the outside. It was his deliberate move to the outside that caused the collision. It was his fault, not Walkers.

I saw it when it happened, and the replays have verified what I saw, which is that Walker was in lane 2, then moved over right into Engles, who because he was impeded had to slow down and tip toe along the railing for a few yards trying to get his balance and keep from flying into the infield.
Your contention is that Walker was far enough ahead of Engels that it wasn't a foul on his part, but if that were the case then he wouldn't have have been clipped.

Here's the deal- Engels was looking for a fight (fall) from the very beginning. Watch him on the initial cut in after first term- he tries to make it look like he was fouled by Walker- then on the second turn Engels fouls another runner just for fun. . . The entire race the kid was looking to foul and interupt guys as he knew he was inferior and that was his only hope. To what ends? So he can get his hat handed to him in the finals? I'll laugh my as off tomorrow watching that 1:47 POS run in the finals- he's not even fast enough to get "fouled" in the finals.

Walker moved over, Engels took several strides (which proves he was not impeded or fouled), THEN he moved over to the right in a deliberate movement and he clipped Walker's heels. He didn't do this while he was flailing around, trying to regain his balance, etc..... He had re-established his position, decided he didn't like where he was and made a move to the right and CLIPPED Walker's heels while doing so. Engels was at fault, Walker was just trying to get to the finish in lane one, which was his right.

The only reason, and i mean the ONLY REASON Engels was advanced to the final (even though he was the guilty party) is because the head coach at Ole Miss is Connie Price Smith who is also the women's Olympic coach. A deal was made you can count on it.
Yet another (former) Ole Miss runner in Isiah Young, who was a DQ false start in prelims of 100, gets reinstated to the semis. The Ole Miss head coach Connie Price Smith is working overtime to get the Ole Miss runners, special favors.

It absolutely matters that Walker changed his direction in the straight because of the runner in front of him and the pertinent USATF rule expressly says so.
Rule 163.3:
"Each competitor shall run in a direct line after entering the final straightaway in all races of two or more turns unless there is another competitor in his or her path."
That is a critical "unless." Most interference claims in the final straight involve runners who are leading (or have a clear path). Walker is allowed to change his path to react to the runner in front of him and he's not supposed to have eyes in the back of his head.
If you put yourself in a position where you are "third in line" as Engels did, you can't just complain that "second in line" weaved. He's allowed to weave.
Terrible call. All the more so because neither of them was likely going to qualify and Engels put himself in a position where he was trailing a runner who wasn't going to qualify.
