KK will have the condition to run sub 4 now, let's see how the circuit works out. Suspect Muir might be a bit more circumspect heading up to the world champs making for fewer races heading through the km in ~2:40.
I almost couldn't believe the 8:41/last 3000, although nothing would seem impossible for Klosterhalfen.
No lap times on the official results, but found a Facebook livestream (Lange Laufnacht Karlsruhe, second to last live video).
The announcer says Klosterhalfen's 400 splits early on: (stream starts mid-race) ... 71 (2200-2600), 72 (2600-3000, this is where Klosterhalfen makes the break from Klein, who had been running with her), 68 (3000-3400, my estimate from the video), 68 (3400-3800, my estimate), 70 (3800-4200, estimate), 69 (4200-4600, estimate), 65 (4600-5000, estimate).
So, this was typed while watching... Last 2.000 m were 5:40, last 2800 m were 8:03. So 8:41 for the last 3000 m seems correct, if not even faster.
But the most impressive thing is watching how she just throws it down after 3000 and blows past everyone, only slowing down after crossing the line. Just wow.
And to think people were saying she's anorexic, weak, will break down soon, blah blah blah...

She is what, 20 years old? Come back in four years when she is still dominating and call out those people. I'm sure everyone that was saying that is still thinking that.
People with this body type usually do well for a year or two and then just come down with chronic injuries that make them disappear. It is sad but true. I wish her the best-- she is exceptional.
Ummm... Her club is BAYER (yes, the pharmaceutical company) Don't worry, I don't think they are doping like they were during the cold war. Koko is legit. There was an interesting profile on her on the federation website a few days ago. Low mileage but at high speeds, lots of plyo strength core dance and yoga.

Yup. There was a pacer that got her through the first k in 3:06, then she took over. They were at 2k in 6:10. Seemed like she wanted to give Klein a bit of help (class act that she is) and didn't make it too fast up to 2600. Then she put the hammer down.
People with this body type usually do well for a year or two and then just come down with chronic injuries that make them disappear. It is sad but true. I wish her the best-- she is exceptional.
She was the German U18 champion in 2014 and has been world class (for her age) ever since. She was just as thin then as she is now. She's had no injuries and she got faster every year. So when is that breakdown coming?
Sure, it's incredibly creepy to observe that a runner looks like they have an ideal frame for the sport. You'd never get basketball/football/whatever fans talking about the physical potential of young athletes.
Obviously I wasn't saying she's not "normal looking", but she has got quite long legs, no? Maybe a bit more Linet Masai than Billy Vunipola?

Why would they stop? That's regarding German sports, not saying anything specific. Those coaches and athletes and processes that they used didn't just stop at the end of the cold war. I'm not aware of a dismantling of their entire sports system, banning of coaches and. athletes, etc. The lineage
didn't just disappear did it? They're smart, and hide it well.
Konstanze Klosterhalfen did run the WC standard for the 800m today.

As a reference, Jenny Simpson has a PB of 2:00.45, and 14.56 5k
Rowbury has a PB of 2:00 flat basically and a 14:39 5k.

14:50 is a fine time and she is just 20, plus this was very much negative split after 2k, according to splits here, and sub 2 in the 8 is not something I thought she'd do at this point, but still that's not close to the level of Chespol, who broke 9 in the steeple after falling in one of her first DL races. Chespol will likely get the WR soon.

Chespol has not run faster than 4:12 in the 1500. I'm not understanding here. How is Chespol on any level near Klosterhalfen??

They're different athletes, progressing in different ways. Chespol might have a Diamond League win, but KK would be expected to beat her at 800 and 1500 at the moment. Comparable talents for sure.

only 4 americans have gone faster than 14:51 (rowbury, huddle, Flanagan, Regina Jacobs). Of those 4, here are their 800 marks in order from fast to slow.
Regina Jacobs- 1:58.08
Shannon Rowbury- 1:59.97
Shalane Flanagan- 2:09.28
Molly Huddle- 2:11.66
