No Mid D Guy Is Running a 10 Second 100m

So despite quite a few middle distance runners being able to break 11 in a 100m you just can't come to terms with it? You are just wrong and have to realize that and that everyone on here knows you are wrong and a fool for starting this thread.

Bram Som also went sub 22 as a mid-distance guy.

He ran 21.84. Surely, sub 11 ability.

I agree, people that think elite 800 guys can't break 11 are crazy. Ton's of these 800 guys run in the 45's for 400. Do the math they are averaging 11mid's for all 4 100m's in a row. Their opening 100m in that 400 is probably 11flat or under.

Loxsom might be a better 400m runner than 800m runner at this point in his career. He also split 20.9 200m with a flying start.

I clearly posted here explaining that I think a few 800 guys would/can break 11 for the 100m. You are the idiot for being unable to read. I never said anything about Coe.

The only thing I said I don't believe is Morceli breaking 11 in the last 100m of an 800.

As far as Duane Solomon specifically, he ran leadoff in the 4x400 in HS (while he was also running XC and some miles with Michael Coe, so he's probably doing more speed work now than in HS), so I know he's plenty proficient out of blocks and I would bet money he would run sub-11 (though not nearly as fast as Johnson). That being said, Duane's a 600-1000 guy, not an 8/15 guy.

I would also accept evidence such as a flying 100 in 9.x in a workout which might indicate sub-11 from blocks. But that hasn't happened either.

Agreed. Morceli could not break 11.0 FAT from standing start or blocks, and certainly neither could EL G or Kiprop, as the poster claimed.

And there are very few 800 elites that could run 45 sec, as claimed.

Of current 2 lapped elites, Rudisha, Amos and Tuka could be certain of breaking 46.0. Possibly Solomon.

Most 1:43-1:45 runners would be around the 47.0 - 48.0.

He was a 800/1500 guy. Rolling start? Are you kidding me , he did that at the end of an 800m , you moron!

This discussion is insane. Anybody who follows elite level middle distance running knows that an elite 800m runner could easily break 11 FAT from blocks.

I'll give you an example, when I was in college we had an average 49 second 400m runner on our team. Within 3 months of each other he ran 6.93 in the 60m and 2 flat in the 800. The 2 flat 800 was also the very first meet of the outdoor season in march. He focused on the 400 outdoors but broke 11 for 100m at least twice FAT as well.

Now he was a solid long sprinter but nothing remarkable. If an average 49 second 400m runner can break 11 for 100m FAT (and even sub 7 for 60m!!) there is no doubt in my mind that a 1:43 type guy could run at least 10.8 FAT from blocks. I'll bet Amos or Rudisha could go 10.5.

Anybody who thinks otherwise proves their lack of knowledge regarding middle distance running.
