Aside from Mo Farah, not a lot of 1500m guys go dominate the 10000m. But they do frequently win championship 5000m races.

Blanky is a perpetual 4th place guy as long as he wastes energy with needless little surges, and Heath is always 5th since he is a Slumpy McGumpy who can't figure out how to use his upper body in a kick.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that Blankenship has tried to run a 10k before, in December of 2015 at the Pacific 10000m Pursuit in Sacramento.

He split 23:00 at 8000m (28:45 pace) then dropped out. He was not leading the race, so probably was not a pacer. He had no teammates in the race either.

Or Dick Quax. Bob Kennedy started at 1500 as well, and would have been a good 10k guy if he had not stuck with 5k so much.

There's lots of pretty good 1500 guys who moved up to 10k, just as there are lots who could not even move up to 5k. It just depends on the runner.

If Blankenship did make the steeple team along with Jager, the guys team might have longer hair than the womens team.

Yes, until he moved up to the 5k as a senior and won ncaa's his senior year. Hall ran 1:51 and 4:01 in high school so it's not like he was slow going into college.

I think he should stay in the 1500m. That 10K Oly Qual is going to be stacked with some desperate dudes from the 'thon and there will be some crazy tactics I think. On top of that, then you have to hit the Qual time if you don't get good conditions... I don't believe he is a kicker in the 1500m and could probably scare some guys with his experience if he tried to control from the lead and hang on. I mean he could have held on last year if Manzano was not in the way.
