Alex George was not a DQ, but was a DNF rather. He was allegedly tripped up by the same Ole Miss guy in both races (based on flashresults live splits, it seems that it would be MJ Erb).

Yes, it was MJ Erb who pushed/tripped him on both occasions. Supposedly, Vanhoy instructed Erb to get in George's head, which I guess included pushing him frequently and chirping at him. George got fed up with it and I guess took a swing at him during the 5k
It's a shame, MJ Erb used to be a pretty good runner. But now even his own coach thinks of him as nothing more than a pawn used to sabotage opponents races. This is a dude who should be contending for conference titles, but has yet to come remotely close. Must suck to be one of vanhoys athletes to know he thinks his guys can only win through dirty tactics

Is this true? If so it's pretty pathetic
My friend who was at the meet said that Alex George was fading pretty hard in the 5k and Mj Erb went to go around him and they ended up bumping eachother. This resulted in Alex George getting upset and turning to punch Mj Erb in the face during the race and Mj Erb preceded to then shove him to the ground. He said it was right in front of the Ole Miss coaches and runners and things got very chippy from there with people yelling back and fourth at eachother. he also told me that the police had to be called and tickets were written due to Arkansas and lsu 400 runners getting in a fist fight post race for contact as well.
Erb wasn't anywhere near George when he fell in the 3k. Erb was leading the race at that point while George was in the very back of the pack - in fact, he got tripped up with one of his own teammates, Jack Bruce.
In the 5k, they were never near each other in the race until after George had been dropped from the pack of guys who were in scoring contention and Erb was moving up, passing those who had died off from the front.
Honestly, it looked like George took a dive both times.. Similar to his lead off leg at Notre Dame the week before.
Here is an article on the Ole Miss track athletes who qualified for NCAA for those interested in actual facts.
