That was generous, very much so, but you have no clue how dangerous doing that is. A mugger may have seen your gesture (someone who was watching patrons come out of the cinema looking for an easy take), assumed you are wealthy, and well, you may not have lived to type your story.

Most Depressing: The Deer Hunter
never saw MDB, but Swank's movie Boys Don't Cry was really depressing. I left that thing in the middle. Actually Karate Kid III was pretty depressing too considering how good the first one was.
I definitely lost it when Clint Eastwood translated Maggie's gaelic nickname at the end. Oh my God, I don't think I've ever cried more during a movie.

Check out the French film 'Man Bites Dog' for depressing. It's a fake-documentary and dark comedy on a mad-man killer. In one scene, he breaks into a family's house in the suburbs and chases down the mother, father and son and kills them. He'll kill anybody!
It's not French, it's Belgian... but yeah, depressing allright!
Oh, my mistake... yeah, I've only seen about 3/4 of it on the Independent Film Channel. My friend owns it so maybe when I'm in a dark mood I'll borrow it from him.

mom gets shot.
While I found it to be quite beautiful and awe-inspiring, my 6 year-old son reacted to March of the Penguins like it was Bambi x 10 on the depression meter. The death of the moms, dads, and babies was a bit more than he could handle. So beware if you have little ones before taking them to see this documentary. But definitely see it on your own if you can. It is truly phenomenal.

Someday I will force myself to watch "Kids" from start to finish, telling myself that it's like a vaccination against the worst elements of our society. But it's tough to watch. "Requiem for a Dream," by comparison, seemed very tame to me.
I'd suggest seeing a movie called Gummo. It is written and directed by the person who wrote KIDS. Not so much "Requiem for a Dream" depressing but pretty bleak at any rate.
Man Bites Dog is a Belgian film actually though language is French.
An excellent film. I like the bit where he talks himself into the old lady's flat and notice the medicin for heart problems and then just scare her to death by just shouting loudly in her face.. it actually looks like she's getting a heart attack for real and then he just sits there watching her..
