Photochop didn't exist in '83.

See the actual current 400m world record. 47.60 Marita Koch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgtI9vIfxtwI was watching the 1983 World Championships live with my grandmother in Sweden. When she saw Kratochvilova, she said, "that's a man."
If you watch the documentaries about East German doping (programs were current throughout the Eastern Bloc), you see that they were pumping the women full of steroids from the early teen years. They trained an enormous amount, aided by the steroids and other drugs. Notice that 2nd in that race is another Czech, probably just a few years behind on the doping regimen. And there are multiple other Eastern Bloc dopers in the field. The only non-Eastern European runners are Sanya Richards, Cathy Freeman (48.63), Marie-Jose Perec (48.25), Ana Guevara, and Valerie Brisco. Perec was the only one among them to get within a second of the world record. Among them, the non-Eastern Europeans included, I would doubt that more than one (Richards) is clean.

The sport has another problem besides doping. That it the obsession with doping. Do you really believe it is impossible for a woman to beat 47.6 without drugs?
Why? And can't you see that believing that a woman or a man has to take drugs to be the fastest is just as big a problem as the doping itself.
Look at Marite Koch after the race. She isn't exhausted is she? Well that is how it is after your best runs, regardless of doping or not doping, that's how it is. You recover faster because you have run more energy efficienctly.
It's impossible to get this message across on this website, because everyone is so fixated on the druggie dogma.
Hard to believe the records from that era are still on the books.

It's volume they got away with back then. Testing sucked and those Eastern Bloc athletes hid out until they tested clean.

And you do that faster on drugs.

Yeah it is strange that no one has beaten them yet.
i wonder how quick koch would have been without the steroids? and kratochvilova......
i agree with you, totally, but all of todays top sprinters still take drugs.perhaps different kinds of drugs, and probably not as much testosterone, but theyre still on the gear.

When and how did you discover that steroids don't work, Jon?

I've seen videos of Kratochvilova doing considerable amounts of running related types of resistance training, similar to what sprinters would do, but with home made types of materials, and much more arduous.
It is not surprising to me at all that she developed the build and strength that she had.
People like you who post nonsensical garbage on the internet have no clue what you're talking about.
I recall her doing resistance type training dragging
heavy weights
A heavy training load is required on top of the steroids
as your jaw dropped, something else rose and you got a very strange feeling down below the same way that you do now when you see Caitlin Jenner.

When I talked to people who took them and realised how crazy they were.
Don't you know that taking synthetic testosterone reduces natural testosterone production?
And don't try and preach to me about recovery. Better recovery comes from better fitness, better efficiency. No drug improves efficiency. But you don't even recognise what that means do you Mr Oblivious?
jarmila was super fit,and extremely strong.she would have been a great talent, even without steroids, but less muscular, less masculine, and not as fast. Its a pity about the soviet bloc boycott, but had she showed up to the 1984 olympics i dont believe she'd have won gold. She didnt seem to be quite the same athlete the following year, not as fast, not as dominant, and a little less muscular.
Why wouldn't she have been as fast without steroids?
Why do you think 47 seconds is undoable without drugs? Can't you see how childishly inept that arguement is?
People really have to grow up and stop buying this druggie BS. It's holding the sport back and has nothing to do with real science.

Crazy fast too, right? Or at least faster than they were without.
Who cares if synthetic T reduces natural levels. Just take more. Duh.
Many drugs improve efficiency.

Because steroids made her faster.....
It sure seems like 47 is not doable since no clean woman has done it.
You're welcome to coach some girl to do it though.
Brilliant plan man. Just take more and more drugs. Wow who woulda thougt of that?
No drug improves efficiency. You don't even understand the concept.
