Neither Geoff Smith, Alistair Hutton or Jon Solly have run sub-4.
The original post refered to sub-4 and a 'great' marathon. Paul Davies-Hale ran 3:56:5 and 2:11:25. A million times better than me but in the scheme of things is that a 'great' marathon?
Other UK sub-4 runners
Gary Staines 3:53:82/2:11:25
Dave Lewis 3:55:96/2:13:49
Dave Clarke 3:56:95/2/13:34
Eamon Martin 3:59:30/2:10:50
Martin comes close to being called a 'great' marathon runner on account of his London win - I'm sure he could have run quicker that day, but he only did what was needed to win. It's a shame he never posted a sub-2:10.
PS it's easy to check - just go to
