I know that it takes time for these things to pick up steam. For me to say 45 now means that I signed it and support it. At 2500, it has passed the breakout point and should grow rapidly. USATF is absolutely in the wrong.

I am usually on the side of athletes and in this case I think Nick has a valid point per se, but this is not the right fight to give up your WC slot. The fact that USATF is making you wear a uniform is simply not worth it. I would not put this in the category of a moral outrage; it's not like USATF is sexually molesting Nick. Perhaps USATF on some level agrees with Nick, but there is always going to be a cost for doing business. Nike actually loses money on track & field; they have to get back something. Btw, Tiger Woods endorses several products, but I don't recall ever seeing him at anytime, at a golf related event without Nike gear.
And how many are actually USATF members? Probably 1%...maybe.

I'm a big fan of Nick.
He said he was 'all ready' to go to the WC (a lot of people are saying he's not ready to go that's why he won't sign)...
And since he missed out of lots of $$ by not running this summer in Europe (instead he trained for the WC's)...
I'd love to see him do some Europe races after the WC's. If he does them, then I'll believe he isn't hurt. The whole thing is a little fishy to me.
I just don't understand why he didn't just sign the waiver, then wear his Brooks stuff in protest. That's a better protest than not going.

After signing a contract that stipulates that he will not wear a non-Nike brand? Maybe he doesn't want to get sued?
Before any athlete signs Nicks petition they might want to do their own research and not depend on Nicks. Nick has said quite a few things that are blatantly incorrect. First off, he was not kicked off of the team, he took himself off of the team. Also, there is absolutely no way USATF only gives back 8% to athletes, if you take the total budget, which is about 40 million, and divide that by prize money, stipens and grants alone, you are over well over 8%. Btw, elite athletes are a net loss for USATF, USATF does not make money off of the backs of elite athletes, outside and sponsorships and TV revenue, most of USATF money comes from sanctioning events, youth memberships and most importantly Junior Olympic/age group events.
Be wary of accepting at face value the broad budget categories labelled as e.g. competition. Unless we saw an accounting of what all the monies were used for, we'd have no idea. I see this budget game being played by universities as well. Even the CIA plays this game--we don't know what intelligence spending is because it is under the aegis of the military budget.
I agree 100% with what you are saying but this is not the real issue. The issue is a poorly worded document that is absurdly ambiguous and egregiously unfair to non-Nike sponsored athletes. Nick has used these other points to argue the USATF is not operating with the Athlete's best interest at heart, but again these are not the reason Nick decided not to sign the Statement of Conditions forfeiting his position on the team (per the USATF). I personally believe Nick should have signed the document and then called the USATF to the carpet when they attempted to enforce the rule without clarity. The USATF is absolutely wrong to tell an athlete they cannot pack any of their shoe sponsor's apparel for the trip and then mandate the athletes wear Nike branded/USA Nike Branded apparel for all team functions without clarifying what those team functions constituted.

You are wrong. USATF makes about ~$20 million a year off Nick and his brand. Look - 3000 people can't be wrong. Without Nick's national fame, the USATF would be bankrupt. Honest guy that only brings truth, not skewed to his interests. Boy just wants his share. Donald Trump for prez, Nick for VP -- make this country great again.
Nick can do what he wants. He's a man in his 30s with a very good career, at least 90 percent of which is behind him.
Those of you who think other athletes should give up trips to the Worlds out of solidarity with Nick...you were joking, right?
Nick can now spend his time legally trying to get rules changed.

The fact that your country does not pay for athletes to travel to international competitions is unfortunate. But the idea that a country's sponsor should be able to dictate a person's life outside of their job should give people cause for concern. Do people not care about individual freedom? Should we all allow corporations to gradually colonize our non-work lives because they sometimes cut us a paycheck or send us on a trip?
Nick sealed his own fate by not signing the waiver.
