I don't know much about Konchellah's management skills but I'd rather him than all those dinosaurs. Okeyo too needs to hit the road.

9th place in the men's 1500 was 3:36.57.

Kiprop "blasted" his 3:36.09 back in May in Elderot (Kipchoge Keino Stadium), at 7-9,000 ft. The trials were at Kasarani Stadium I believe (Nairobi, 5,500 ft).

Some claimed the 3:36 was worth 3:28 at sea-level ...Of course Kiprop has ran 3:26 now, so that equivalency may not be totally crazy. I wonder what his 3:34, at less elevation, would be worth?

If close to the same, Kenya would have quite a few 3:28-30 guys based on the trials.

I'm surprised to see Kwemoi only in 6th.

Here are the times from the trail's 1500, along with everyone's PR, just for fun:

1. Kiprop - 3:34.03 (3:26.69)

2. Kiplagat - 3:34.44 (3:27.64)

3. Manangoi - 3:34.46 (3:29.67)

4. Biwott - 3:34.71 (3:30.10)

5. Cheruiyot - 3:34.86 (PR ... previous was 3:35.24, earlier this year)

6. Kwemoi - 3:35.25 (3:28.81)

7. Magut - 3:35.51 (3:30.61)

8. Simotwo - 3:35.86 (PR, previous was 3:39, earlier this year)

9. Maiyo - 3:36.57 (3:35.20)

Crazy how stacked Kenya is in the 1500 ... no Cheboi (3:30.34) or Birgen (3:30.77) in this race either. And if Chepseba (3:29.77) ever returns to form ...

Cheruiyot in 5th is Timothy Cheuriyot, the guy who went out in 51.x on the 1600 leg of the DMR in the Bahamas this year.

Simotwo's previous best was also from altitude, Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on 11 July.

I would love to know Kiprop's splits from this race.

2. A guy runs 27:11 at ALTITUDE and you dont think he's in better shape than when he ran 26:52 at sea level? Nairobi has the same altitude as Denver.

It's got to be worth at least 1 second per lap. Kamworor certainly coudl run in the 26:30s right now.

It still could be the same old story at Worlds but if you aren't impressed by a guy winning by 7 seconds you are on drugs.

I think the LetsRUn nation should crowdsource $25,000. If the clock is under 13:20 at 5000 in Beijing in the middle of the 10,000 we pay it out to whoever did the leading. If the other two Kenyans want to split it, so be it.

13:20 might be too fast for the conditions. I'll let some scientifst figure out what the equivalent of 26:30 pace woudl be.

"Reality" begins with READING COMPREHENSION.He was 7 seconds ahead of THIRD place, he only won by less that FOUR seconds. That is, last time I checked, under ONE SECOND per mile. Hardly "an eternity". Basically a tactical victory over good but not Farah-level opponents.His 26:52 was hampered by the same pace and conditions that frustrated Farah's efforts for a fast time. I would give both 26:3x under perfect conditions, but with Farah still getting the win readily over the last 400. Looks like Longosiwa didn't make top 3, Ndiku did. 5000 was the best race, busted wide open with a breakaway, even though it was slow overall.

Surprised no one has mentioned this simple stat yet. Regardless of the fact Tanui was 3rd, Kamworor beat him by 6.56 seconds. Farah beat him by .89 seconds. That's a large difference against the same athlete who seemed to run pretty well on both occasions.

this is an awesome idea. i would certainly pay something. it's essentially like pay-per-view but the VIEWERS have an influence on the event they are watching.cool stuff, i feel like the kenyans would be into it. i wish i was a millionaire, i'd really raise the stakes in every big competition.

The article makes it sound like Kamworor sat on the other two for the whole race, just like Pre. Farah did a good portion of the work at Pre. It would be a highly entertaining race if it went hard from the gun, but it would take a monumental effort from all the Kenyans and they still would have a high chance of getting outkicked.

NCAA altitude conversion gives 26:17 for Albuquerque altitude (5100ft), 5500ft gives 26:10.

Yes, these adjustments are too much for someone who grew up at altitude, but this is very very impressive. Worlds really has the potential to be a great race with these 3 guys in this shape.

The 10k adjustment is obviously crazy for altitude athletes, but 4:25 to 4:13 isn't that crazy. What I liked was that it had 4:5x worth 6:10 or so at 13,000 ft, which was just about right for me in high school when I spent six weeks at that altitude in Potosi and ran a 6:13 mile with spikes on the track at the end. I was very slow and hadn't broken five at sea level as a junior, but I felt like I was flying at 8,000 ft for a few days in Sucre and then just moving when I got back to Cali--no races to prove it, however.

More seriously, the fact that these three did work together today, that Karoki has often been perfectly willing to break out on his own in a 10k (e.g. Stanford 10k a few years ago), and that at least two of them have been based in Japan, as far as I know, gives some hope that they'll try. But they'll have to go better than 26:35 pace in good conditions to burn Farah's kick.
