Goucher releases statement: Further evidence will only be shared with USADA.

How did Kara publish this? It's not on her twitter feed or her blog. Where did she publish it?

Goucher has officially digressed to a LetsRun poster.

"I demand that you provide evidence defending yourself against my allegations publicly and the allegations of 17 anonymous people. But I will blindly refute your evidence and not hold myself up to the same standards of transparency I have set for you."

Im not saying that she doesn't have evidence but don't make this a public battle and cry "Transparency" and then when someone refuses to back down you want to change the rules.

I'm just going to summarize this whole mess:

Salazar and the entire Athletics West gang were notorious dopers. Nike has been involved in organized doping forever. Even the overdose deaths of Drenth and FloJo did nothing to slow down the doping program.

NOP was founded on the premise of dope first, dope often. Kara and Adam and Fleshman were just as deep into the doping as all the other NOPers and Nike athletes.

Kara and Fleshman never came forth with the evidence of the NOP and Nike doping program until they were off the Nike payroll. They put their greed far, far above the greater good. The only retribution they were afraid of from Nike that delayed their telling the truth was loss of income.

Now that they are no longer on the Nike payroll, they have a need to pump up their cash flow. They do this by constantly going to the media. Kara uses every opportunity to shed some tears. She is a master manipulator, and along with Lauren, has a desperate and pathetic need for attention. Neither of these gals cares at all about doping, and will never return the dirty money that they received from Nike while they were on the program.

I respect letting USADA investigate, but Goucher originally took this public. Then, when a response by Salazar, cast doubt (or at least raised questions) on some aspects of her story, she made a big deal about not liking being called a liar and promised to release info, stated she was working with reputable news sources etc. We will see what the process shows, but at this point I really doubt if she has anything more than what she told Epstein and what she reported to USADA in 2013.

Agreed, those 2 mafia bullies have no place in this sport. I bet Kara had more of her problems with them. They did hire Alberto, they did sign Gatlin and Gay.

There are 2 types of people in Track and Field:

Those too ignorant to believe someone is clean and those too ignorant to believe someone is a doper.

None of us actually KNOW anything. Court systems fail everyday. They prosecute the wrong guy and set the right one free.

The only thing we do know is that there will always be a cloud of suspicion around the Oregon Project forever.

Even if Kara does not win this she has ruined the NOP's reputation for as long as Alberto is alive and it will forever have that stigma attached to it.

40 years from now some 12 year is going to start running middle school XC and get on the internet and look up great American distance runners.

Eventually they are going to scroll across the Salazar Dynasty and think "Centro, Farah, Rupp, and Cain could really run". The immediately after they are going to find paragraphs of doping accusations and write off their accomplishments.

Those kids never get to look back at track and field the way we get to look at Prefontaine, Shorter, Zatopek, Clark or Lasse Viren. They will look at the NOP the way that I look at 90's Chinese track and field.

Your name says it all: biased as all get out. Dealing with USADA with further information is the way to go, not through tweets or press releases.

Also, did you get this "statement" exclusively? Was it released to any other media before your report?

That's because people actually read Alberto's rebuttal and have been following the developments ever since. There isn't any need for a PR firm on NOP's side, because the Goucher/Magness side is down to almost nothing but trolls.

I don't disagree that female athletes that have children need some support. I DO however disagree that stating that Nike's lack of support for her during her pregnancy means they would drop her for reporting illicit activity. Especially when Nike isn't unique in not providing support during pregnancy- it's the norm.

Fair point on your explanation of why this lack of support differs versus your standard office job. I too think Kara is right to seek better coverage for athletes when pregnant, but again that wasn't what the statement was about and doesn't justify why she thought Nike would drop her for reporting illicit activity.

It feels a bit like she's playing the "I'm a mom card," again and that has nothing to do with this.

I don't think wanting evidence when evidence is promised is biased at all.

If Alberto came out saying "Well I have evidence Kara has a time machine and the truth will come to light"

I'd kind of want to see the evidence and I'd be "SleazySal" if he provided the response Kara did.

I believe in the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing.

As the accuser you take responsibility to own and properly defend your claims to/against those accused and those who you have made a commitment to.

She promised the sport transparency.

Thus far from her I have seen 2 pictures that idiomatically are worth 2000 words verses Alberto's 12,000 words.

So basically don't accuse a scale of being bias when one side has a bit more weight than the other.

I agree with you on all of this. Good post. What the hell does suspended because she was pregnant mean anyway?
