I do have a question regarding Salazar giving Goucher Cytomel. Did she not say she asked her endocrinologist if it was OK to take the Cytomel after Salazar gave it to her, and he warned her not to take it? In Salazar's letter, he implies that Dr. Brown WAS her endocrinologist.
I do note that in Dr. Brown's letter to Salazar, he states "because of other medical treatment this athlete had received." To me that implies the treatment was under a different doctor.
Was she under the care of another endocrinologist in addition Dr. Brown? If she was, I would think it careless to not consult the other doctor before prescribing additional thyroid meds. I also find it odd that he would prescribe this medicine without any blood work first. Seems he just did it based on her reporting that she was feeling tired and recieving some cortisone injections.
Having had thyroid issues myself, my medicine never changed without blood work being done first.

I must say, Alberto's statement is a tour de force and has made me do a complete 180 on this topic. I wasn't expecting to change my mind, but after reading all of it, I believe he complied with WADA and IAAF regulations and it is clear that some of his accusers have made knowingly false statements. Wow.

I can't believe this hasn't come up yet, but...
Given ProPublica's journalistic method, why is AlSal only now saying that what he was accused of is false? Had he made his claims when they first contacted him, this story wouldn't have blown up as much as it did. Their process would have led to them accepting his claims and then investigating further. Instead, only one side of the story came out and other informants and claims were able to come out against him.
If we are to believe AlSal, why didn't he immediately deny the claims when he had the chance and before the article/video came out?
The funniest thing said was that Magness hasn't ever had someone qualify for Nats.

One thing it DOESN'T address is the whole "I didn't really coach Mary Decker" thing. Guess Mo is good with whatever Salazar told him about that matter.
I hate to say it, but I think AlSal's statement is better reasoned and better documented than the Epstein article. That doesn't necessarily make it true, but it does put AlSal in a much stronger position than I expected it to.
Wherever the truth may lie, good for him for making a detailed statement at a time when the track community is paying close attention.

The response is more than I anticipated but at first glance I'm not sure it changes much.
In general, we are likely to end up where I thought we'd end up - with one huge unanswered question. Salazar has androgel in his posession at all times, He knows, from testing it on his own son (I was shocked he admitted to that, can that possibly be legal for a doctor to agree to?) that rubbing into an athlete won't result in a positive test. Did he ever rub that into Galen himself?
I think the weakest/weirdest part of his response is how he takes interviews and blog posts from Magness and Goucher when they left the project and compares that to their statements now and acts like that's a big smoking gun.
Salazar himself is the one who in many ways brought this whole investigation onto himself because of similar statements.
Using that line of thinking, Salazar has said, "None of our athletes are on any sports-specific supplement other than beta alanine, which is an amino acid. Other than that, it’s iron, vitamin D and that’s it. You don’t really need anything else.”
His whole response admits that's not true as he says they are/have been on Tribex, Alpha Male, and at times ZMA.
Wow. That's a hell of a statement.
I mean, if you think about it... Alberto wouldn't have been stupid enough to be microdosing Galen or anyone else all these years, right?
And the TUE thing, well, it seems well-documented that they're playing within the rules.
I want to believe.
Alberto was particularly vicious towards Magness. I had to LOL at the line about how Steve's never qualified a runner for the NCAA championships at Houston, which to be fair isn't a distance hotbed. Also, Alberto basically said Steve was carrying on an affair with Areson. I love the drama! Will Magness/Epstein provide a counter-response in ProPublica? Let's hope so!
He had a guy qualify for nationals this year. Just saying....Everything else seemed pretty damning though and well defended.

I've been wondering that myself. It will be very interesting to see what Epstein has to say. And of course also interesting to see how Kara and Magness respond.
I am impressed with Salazar (and his lawyers) organization of proof.
I wonder if the Gouchers are sitting at home confused thinking "We should have known he would save our emails."

Fairly simple: Alberto did not know everything the report consisted of. Do you think Epstein or anyone else told Alberto who was saying what exactly? I am sure there were some questions asked of him, perhaps some allegations shared, but do your homework on the creation of a documentary. Even if Alberto sat in a chair and was allowed to deny every claim, they wouldn't show it. A documentary is one sided to suggest or prove a point.

I'm having a hard time understanding how this means what you want it to mean. The sports federations are okay with doping and leave things like a 4:1 T:E ratio alone to permit some doping.
Al Sal absolutely, positively, ran a doping program within the limits of WADA code.
If you were trying to suggest there wasn't a NOP doping program, you failed.
