I would encourage all the Letsrunners out there to NOT participate in this design contest. Crowdsourcing of design services amounts to most designers getting paid nothing for their work. It would be like a journalist spending several hours covering a story and only getting paid if their piece was chosen out of hundreds of submissions. Who can survive working like that? Well, there are enough people--mostly in third world countries--contributing their design work to make this an attractive option for design services. I strongly believe that these people are being exploited and we should not support this business model. Do this the right way. Hire a graphic designer and pay him or her for their work.
Interesting points. I'm familiar with some of the arguments. At the same time people are voluntarily submitting entries and can decide if they want to participate and we picked the most expensive package on designcrowd. I guess giving the winner more money means we're more likely to get people to submit free entries.
I would much rather have a winner who is a LetsRun.com regular so I view the extra entries as a bonus.
Hosting it on designcrowd.com makes it much easier for the entries. I wish the designcrowd site had different funding models.
