Ches didn't say exactly that he 'let' Jenkins win. He was answering honestly and Jenkins didn't react to it whatsoever. They are a team & they are comfortable with the truth. No disrespect for Ches. Maybe he's not as clued in as he should be to something like this but he answered the question quite well.

i dont know, but it appears poor reporting on Letsrun, and Cheserek's words being spun, to make him seem cocky.

it is also important to consider being In vs. Out of the moment. and perception is more important than actuality (assuming your trying to judge his character). If Cheserek thought he could have won it, he doesn't have the race film in front of him like we do, seemingly indicating otherwise, only 3 other tough races fatiguing him. His perception could be skewed. But In that moment there is no reason for him not to be 100% confident. The goal with the 3k was winning the team title.

besides asking someone if they let someone else win is a lose/lose type question. If he's the king, he's going say he had more in him.

Obviously you've never been in a position to share the winning experience before. I've given teammates wins before, I've allowed them to snatch ties out of the jaws of defeat.. Teammates have done the same for me (one particular time more hilarious than anything you've ever heard of). There's a lot more to the sport than fighting over every last crumb.

He said he let him take it. Interpret that how you want. But I reported exactly what he said.

Given the way in which it was said, and especially with Jenkins right next to him, I think it more indicates that he didn't go to the well to try and get the win, than that he deliberately held back to let Jenkins win. I think, initially, he though that he had to cover Cambell, who'd slightly got the drop on them, kicking from behind. That possibly made him kick a little early.

probably not that much faster. there is a reason he is running the 3K/5K.

I don't post predictions, cos one has pretty good odds of looking wrong and stupid in this sport.

However, as soon as I heard Chez was running the mile, I thought "Andy is positioning for the most team points. He's got two killer finishers spread them out, and the upside is Jenkins gets a shot at at least one title in his Sr. year, Chez has the goods for the mile, Team in the 5k...and Chez probably eases up if he and Jenkins have a clear 1-2 in hand. --Which I did post on the prediction thread the Brojo's put up during the meet.

I do think Jenkins could have won anyway. On the other hand we didn't see Edward lose his form trying to go for the win in the past ten meters...like he did at Outdoors.

And I repeat, seeing these guys hang out together and root for each other -- they are an incredibly tight team.

I wouldn't give this site the honor of nouns such as reporting and journalism. They do a good service here, and I respect the site a great deal, but it's not journalism. It's biased coverage with people whose egos get in the way and who get offended too easily. That being said, I'm here everyday and I love the site a great deal and the coverage is, at the very least, in-depth and insightful at times.

Great NCAA coverage by the way. It was quick and accessible and smart.

I am pretty sure Ches didn't let him win per se, but after realizing Oregon was getting the team points they needed he didn't fight for the win which doesn't mean he would have won anyway. Ches certainly didn't gut it out like he did against Lawi, but even if he did that would have made it more interesting; however with Jenkins most likely still winning.

He looked like he wanted the win when he went by his teammate on the last lap. Was he just looking for a top-8 at that point? Or was it only when he was getting beaten during the last straight?
