The idea that an athlete can be bullied/tricked/forced into taking banned substances by a coach may have validity if the athlete is very young or in a system rather like the old East German one. The idea that Gay was duped or coerced by Drummond into cheating is absurd. both are equally guilty; both should get an equal punishment.

You seem quite sophisticated and reasonable, which is why I am disappointed that you seem to be supporting Drummond here.
We cannot allow dopers to stay in the sport no matter how good they are in some capacity. Look at Lance - he raised money for cancer. Who cares - just because he did good things in other areas, does not absolve him of being a doper.
We can't be apologists, or we are just part of the omertà of doping.

Not only that, when he was convicted, they left him start his 1 year term on July 1st even though he was convicted well after that so he would be able to compete in the Diamond League the next year...
I'm telling you, Tyson barely even suffered anything from this whole fiasco... He didn't get to compete at worlds, and indoor season barely matters anyways... He came right back at DL Laussane July 2nd, and carried on w/ his career, it's like he wasn't even gone... We obviously don't take doping seriously enough...

I agree that he was underpunished, but
he did lose (probably) millions of dollars, gave back his OG medal and missed a WC.

It was 2 years. No results from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2014. The USADA document states that this DHEA cream has cost him about $5 million. He's paid back his prize money and appearance money. That doesn't seem like getting off easy to me, not when others have tested for DHEA and have suffered far less.

I'm curious on why there is a whole thread dedicated to bashing Jon Drummond - for good reason of course - yet not one bashing Kenenisa Bekele for going to a coach that claims that EPO has no effect on his athletes. In fact LetsRun frequently quotes him!
All Positives should be getting an eight year no matter what country they come from. The time to clean this crap up has long since past. The alphabet soup organizations only roll this stuff out periodically for PR purposes. They don't care about the athletes it is all about the money what can be made of who and who profits. The game just keeps on getting dirtier with both athletes and "officials" No wonder athletics is a dying sport..

Hopefully USADA has more info on Tyson helping clean up the sport than what has come out.
Tyson did lose 2 years of results and pay back all his prize money and appearance fees from what was reported. I don't know of other athletes that have done that. But we should doublecheck that Tyson actually did that but I'm assuming a DL meet wouldn't let him compete without paying back what he stole.
Graham continues to try to sell the total BS story. The massage therapist, Chris Whetstine, won a 7 figure settlement with Nike after Lew Starks confronted and then proceeded to beat Whetstine severely. Starks kept his job only because he knows ALL the dirt on Nike and its endorsed athletes. Gatlin is now coached by Dennis Mitchell who was a major drug bust as was Mitchell's wife. He is running as good as any time in his life. Think he really was sabotaged now?

Great, he was better than Sandra Farmer Patrick. That is like being the best member of Congress. Bottom line, we had 16 years of doping-connected "leaders" trying to serve athlete needs. They either kowtow to Stephanie or sell out important issues for minor personal gain (slots as a national team coach, trips to world champs, etc.).
Not sure if the athletes want smart, organized, attentive leaders. I hope (and believe) Curt Clausen can help here. I realize some will chide him for not being a sprinter or hurdler.
