Discussion on Whether 150+ Athletes Names and Blood Values Should or Should Not be Revealed

They should absolutely NOT be revealed. Merely being dehydrated or sick can make for abnormal blood values and the public would make it a witch hunt. If you believe in the testing, let the professionals work behind the scenes. If you don't believe in the testing, then why would you crucify these people based on these tests?

If you want the 150 names to be released you really just want to gossip about athletes. You'll rip people's careers apart and then move on to rip someone else apart next week.

I think the letter 'A' should be sewn on all their shirts/blouses. could it be that the obsession is going a bit too far. Let the blood tester handle it and keep the screaming bystanders out of it. Word of it will seep through air tight system and you can have your fix.

I think a lot of people are fearful that their favourite athlete or athletes are on the filth list.

Get them named.

Countries that featured highly:

Russia: 58 athletes

Kenya: 25

Spain: 12

Greece: 12

Ukraine:11

Romania: 11

Ethiopia: 10

Morocco: 10

Given the history of the sport this list of countries is not surprising with the exception of Ethiopia, whose federation has never set up an effective anti doping system.

Err, the whole point is the professionals haven't been working behind the scenes:

And the latest from Sebastian Coe, probably the next IAAF president:

"Describing the past week as “ghastly” for the sport... if there is more information out there, if this German journalist feels there is a list, or whatever he’s got, please let us know what it is.

We need to bring this to a close as quickly as possible."

Which is why the listshould be made public to "bring this to a close as quickly as possible" , sooner or later it will happen anyway (leaked) and the longer it goes on before it does the more damage the speculation will do to T&F.

I don't think they should be released. Look at this thread alone. Many of those names could be innocent but their names would NEVER recover. Ever, even if they are innocent.

I think innocent until proven guilty.

Actually I was wondering whether some of the posters on this thread are managers/agents of athletes.

Wejo, with respect, the question should be: when will the list be openly revealed, how and by whom?, cos it's going to happen. If the person who leaked the documents didn't want the names revealed they would have used a texta and blacked them out (similar to time released govt docs, etc that still have sensitive content blacked out) and just released the report and countries of athletes involved.

I'm guessing WDR have some kind of contract with UK Telegraph that they can't release the names until a certain time after WDR have, if WDR decide to so pending legal issues, etc, in the meantime the story will be milked for all it's worth, which is fair enough.

The person who leaked originally obviously has an agenda (otherwise blacked out names...), so if for some reason the release of names is not forthcoming it's the easiest thing in the world for him/her or someone else who has a copy to anonymously do so on the net.

It's going to happen and doesn't matter what any of us think.

They haven't followed up properly because they don't have the financial resources to do so in a manner that keeps them following their own protocols, which are set in place to protect the athletes from crap like this.

If this list is leaked it's a sad day for sport because a ton of innocent athletes will be painted with a dirty brush, especially due to the fact there will likely be a handful of dirty athletes on the list that have since gone positive and all the clean athletes will simple be guilty by association.

Total BS. Imagine all of the training, sacrifices, etc. put in to reach that level of sport, only to be torn down by a bunch of gossiping idiots.

I would suggest that what they should get to the bottom of is, Pappa Massata Diack's supposed bribe request from the Doha, Qatar's 2019 IAAF World Track and Field Championships bid. He requested several million. He has been caught, that is why he stepped aside.

And the Russian debacle with the apparent systematic doping that has gone on. When the Russian Anti-Doping Agency is the Russian Doping Agency and their main Dr. is being implicated, Houston, we have a problem.

WADA is funded by the IOC, matching the dollars from member nations on the basis of ability to pay. Russia, my guess will short WADA quite a few dollars, x 2. They could be sanctioned as a nation.

Turkey had the same problem recently, where 31 athletes were sanctioned.

The list should only be revealed, if the implicated athletes are for sure without a doubt proven guilty of doping.

It's going to happen, "gossiping idiots" or not, just like the "sad day for sport" when it happened to cycling. It's not the "gossiping idiots" on here you should be attacking.

The athletes who are not on the list will be the likely clean ones. They have also made the training and sacrifices but they are the ones who have been robbed of prize money and fair competition. That is total BS because they are the ones who actually respected the rules of the sport. These are the athletes you should be thinking about, not the ones who are cheating. Seppelt exposed cycling for what it was when the UCI was half assed about catching drug cheats and he is now doing the same for track and field. It will be great day for the sport if the list of names is revealed.

The article says "British track and field icon" and shows a picture of the London 2012 stadium. I'm not sure if that means someone that medalled in London, but how many of those are considered "icons" - perhaps only Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis.

But there are obvious reasons to also suspect Ohuruogu who got silver in the 400m, but is she really a "British track and field icon"?

The problem with naming the names, is that not all will be guilty and it is difficult to defend against accusations about an unusual blood value back in 2001-2008.

The problem with not naming them, is that there will be speculation and rumours and I'm sure there are already a large number of athletes and coaches that know who the athletes are. The rumours could be just as damaging as releasing the list. Meanwhile the guilty could get away with it while others are accused.

People don't get it. It isn't about individuals, its bigger than that.

Its about a system that says one thing and does another.

Why were these not followed up properly?

If they lack resources to do so then lets have some transparency and say so. Or you find the resources.

If you're scared of looking under the carpet because of what it might reveal then its a different matter.

This is about a sport that isn't run properly and we can't trust.

Its completely unfair to potentially ruin careers and reputations of innocents by publishing this list. But lets dig deeper and call out the decision makers who couldn't or wouldn't do the right thing.
