Here here, children. Come have a seat at the footstool of those far more experienced and well versed. First of all, I'm not convinced Barnicle is even close to a good ambassador for the pot movement because I know nothing of his character. However, I am impressed at his outspokenness about pot and what it has done for his digestive disease. Eventually, he may be remembered as one of "the first" athletes to come out about their pot use as it becomes more widely accepted.

For every one of you "who knows well" a deadbeat or someone "who lost their way" "BECAUSE OF POT!", there are meanwhile several people in your life who you respect, interact with daily, and even admire who are regular users of pot. And at the same time, we also are each experienced with people who become dependents of drugs, whether legal or not.

Admittedly not everyone can handle pot. I know people for whom it has proved a gateway drug and some whose mental illness and eventual suicide may correspond with their early pot use. However, I know more people who could not handle alcohol responsibly, who could not handle running responsibly, who could not handle their own sexuaal impulses responsibly, and whom had absolutely no involvement with pot.

There are no direct correlations to be made between pot use and the destruction of lives. Meanwhile, my wife began cannabis use as a means of treating chronic sciatica after years of wear and tear in athletics. I know a current 1:47 800m runner who used pot to combat depression. I myself have used pot to combat IBS with amazing success. I have smoked with police officers, politicians, my assistant coach, my boss, and most often socially with friends. Sometimes it is recreational. Sometimes it is medical. And the remainder of the time? I don't use it. I don't crave it. I don't think about it any more than I think about other drugs I have had.

Point is, pot is a drug, and like the many other legal drugs out there, it is widely used by Americans and others around the world.

MORE IMPORTANT ARGUMENT NOW:

pot is widely accessible in the US. Meanwhile the government spends hundreds of millions of dollars directly combating it each year. Why? You would imagine that pot users are destroying our country...

Making it legal, in the same way alcohol and cigarettes is legal, would serve to do one thing: TAKE IT OUT OF THE HANDS OF VIOLENT CARTELS. Legal pot would be a punishing blow to these jerks.

Why don't we want that? You and I do, actually. But because of powerful members of the federal government who receive incredible incentives to keep pot illegal, the power is retained in the hands of a few terribly violent crime syndicates.

cannabis has never improved someone's spirituality/perspective?

the medical community (science) has found enough reason to legalize cannabis as a method of treatment and pain prevention, why cite pseudoscientists representing organizations with anti-drug agendas?

are you aware of the differences in potency, strand type, and intake method or are we just lumping it all together as the same?

also curious to hear your views on alcohol, caffeine, prescription medicine (particularly opiates), etc?

and lastly, is your perusing/posting on letsrun all day a "simple pleasure of the flesh," or "striving for excellence in god's domain?"

I have two siblings who are the only people in our family to smoke pot. Both developed schizophrenia after doing this.

I think I'll pass.

Yeah some old codger who has his eyes and ears willfully closed to the actual circumstances of the society in which he lives. And he wants to give advice on spirituality, morals ,

Blame everything on pot,

And make his case by comparing it to 99 mpw versus 100 mpw.

Even if he is a troll, there are old cranky codgers who think this way. I got news for ya. Your grandchildren are as naughty as you are narrowminded and short sighted. Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la...

And btw most of the activities I listed occur without the involvement of pot . Many muddle class young adults have productive careers of selfishness and indulgence without ever having partaken.

On the contrary, Barnicle was a fun kid and I liked him as a teammate. Certainly was a unique guy, but so are many runners. If you didn't like him in high school you were probably jealous or took running way too seriously

Search 'Chris Barnicle' on Twitter. This video came out on oct 7 2014, so I don't believe it'll make the impact some hope, since it took us over two months to find it. Furthermore, why'd he delete his handle? He was pretty cool on social media.

Cannabis is now legal in Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Canada and Washington D.C. so it is officially ok to smoke it now and not harmful at all.

Though it will drain you of testosterone and make you fat, effeminate and passive. Your call if that's harm to you or not. Hippies seem to like it.

CBDs reduce inflammation and have been beneficial in fighting very serious diseases. Until recently, CBD-rich marijuana was generally unavailable in the U.S. because breeders had concentrated on developing plants with high THC, breeding out CBD in the process.

We are just learning about the benefits of CBDs, and THC. Do your research. The science is almost as interesting as scientology.

MJ is a drug. As is alcohol, tobacco, etc. Using them has costs. None are benign.

It is a safe statement that the current raft of legal drugs - alcohol and tobacco - is more harmful to individuals and society than drugs like MJ. Most policy makers agree that if we had to do over again, we would pick different drugs to legalize. One thing that the Islamic world got right.

Some of the nation's leading artists -- musicians, writers, you name it -- are smokers, too; pot can inspire imagination, not detract or subtract from it, and sloth is by no means an automatic result. Industry is, just as often. This dialogue is of little use when someone as under- and un-informed as you are provoked it, but worth responding to because it has prompted this often ridiculous thread that people seem interested in.
