Why do North American runners take their shirts off?

That's an interesting question because in places warmer than North America, athletes don't routinely run with their shirts off. In Qatar, from May - Sept, the temps average 100+ and it is illegal to run shirtless.

Been running all my life in the UK. Never worn or seen anybody running in polo shirts. You diick.

North America thinks the rest of the World is strange. And it is.

It starts when the weather gets warm or whenever it is unseasonably warm. It is a rite of passage to becoming comfortable with your body.

perhaps they dont run without shirts because its illegal to run without shirts.

a summer of training for xc in 80-90 degrees with humidity the consistency of soup, why would i bother trying to wear a shirt? and the girls on my team and probably every other team just do sports bras. who cares?

also not trying to do any more laundry than i already do, which isn't really that much anyway.

I am another older guy and I agree with the save laundry reason. I live a block from the ocean so after I run I can jump in the water and also wash my shorts and myself. Bingo time and money saved

I think the better question is: why do runners from other countries not take their shirts off?

When I lived in Australia, I couldn't believe how the team that I ran with, which met at noon, didn't take their shirts off. I would almost always be the only one shirtless even if it was 90+ degrees.

All the reasons have already been listed. People here look at me funny sometime too but here nor there I didn't care at all. All about comfort.

Actually my point had nothing to do with running, just being. I know the bouncing would be an issue for most women probably. So I'm talking about being outside shirtless, men can do it, but it's illegal for women. But this is offtopic, as this thread was about running.
