"51" other states? Credibility lost.
I'd prefer that he/she doesn't explain. It's nonsense on so many levels, it would be waste of our time to listen to more of it, except as a case study in trolling or jealousy. It's in the category of something that does not merit a response.

Bill is an advisor for Stotan Racing, yes. His son, John (who as Bill's assistant at FM since the early years of NXN), coaches the Stotan program. NIKE supports the FM program, via the FM School District. NIKE supports Stotan Racing, as a separate entity.
I'm thinking about moving there to join the team. I've got a 14:38 5k PR from college and figure that they might be able to get me to the next level.

Wasting your time. Get a job. Rojo might hire you as a fluffer, at 14:38.

Cool that they give credit to Cerutty, who was a real pioneer.
matt deyo (#@2 a few years ago) is running at MIT.
i'd bet he took an AP class or 5 to get in there.

But wait, I think they can. Wait, did they? Yes, they just did! Master Yoda just led his Jedi women to their 8th NATIONAL championship! And the Jedi Men to their first! In the same year!! All mid-sized school and all. Such a travesty. All because of disciplined hard work.
Great results year in and year out, so congratulations.
I have a pretty good idea of the discipline (sleep, nutrition, consistency, etc.) but what we want to know is what that hard work is all bout. What does the training program look like? Anybody know specifics?

Wow. Exciting. FM girls win again. What a lame set up this meet is. It does little to get the best runners in each region in the race in favor of a few high school programs; the same ones each and every year. The format needs a major overhaul.
WTF are you talking about?! You'd rather have a set up that doesn't bring in the best teams?! The current setup does favor the best runners… run the regional, place high, and you go to nationals. Team or individual.
For what it's worth, 10 different schools have won the boys race in NXN's 11 years. FM has just managed to create a HS dynasty that we'll likely never see again (and I'm not necessarily a fan of Aris and FM, but it's damn impressive regardless).
Should the NCAA change the format to keep CU, Wisconsin, Ok. State, Arkansas, etc out of the championships since they've won the vast majority of men's titles over the past 40 years?!

Congrats to the FM boys and girls, clearly an incredible performance by their team.
I was at NXN this weekend and heard many frankly distressing things about the FM coach (disclaimer- I don't know if these are true, and am wondering if people with more familiarity to the program have information). Apparently Aries doesn't let his athletes take AP courses (I was told he said this at a coaches clinic a number of years ago). Is this true? If so, I think it's reprehensible. Running is great and important, but an athlete shouldn't have to choose between being on their team and challenging themselves academically because of the policies of a coach.
The FM teams also went off campus for running (which Nike prohibits), and apparently have done this in years past, presumably at the direction of Aries. Not that other teams might not do things like this, but actions like that give off an air of "We're so good we can ignore the rules Nike (who's paying for all of this) sets out".
Obviously FM is a tremendous team, and their athletes past and present have done incredible things, but if the success of the program is driven at least in part by a HS coach with policies that detract from academic performance, in the end is it worth it?
you're bitching because (allegedly) Aris frowns on AP courses and you're whining about where the team ran while in Oregon?
Butthurt much?

You would be the first, good luck.
I don't think there are any big training secrets. Of course the coaching is really good, but the "secret" has to be this (and I have zero knowledge of what F-M does, so this is just my own theory): talent identification and the attractiveness of joining a winning team.
In any domain, there are vast amounts of undeveloped talent everywhere. This is especially true in girls' sports. There are kids who could be great at music, art, math, science, writing, etc.- and running- that are never discovered and never developed for many reasons. If you can increase the pool of young runners who are "tested" in some way, you can identify the individuals who have the ability to run fast enough to help the team compete nationally. These are not necessarily future pros- but good enough to be solid runners on a great HS team.
A second factor is that the program's success leads to more success, because those with talent are more likely to commit to the required lifestyle. If you are identified as a talented 12 year old distance runner in a community that does not value it, and it seems like a crazy dream that you might become a national champion, and nobody in your family knows anything about track and field and XC, and nobody has heard of the coach, and maybe there are other sports in the town/city that get a lot of attention, what are the chances you would say, "sure, I'm willing to work hard and sacrifice for the next six years"?
On the other hand, if you are in the F-M school system, the message could be, "You have an opportunity to join a legacy of champions- and we need you to help our community maintain a great record of success."
Establishing a dynasty is like scoring first in a soccer match- it's a huge advantage and it's really hard for the other team to catch up.
A winning team definitely plays a major role in FM's program. Very few high school students would pick cross over a sport such as soccer or football. The latter two sports are much more attractive options as they tend to have a larger fan base and receive much more coverage. Being multi time national champions places gives FMXC much more coverage and a larger Fan base which makes their program more attractive to high schoolers. Having the best athletes pick running over soccer and football gives Aris better "clay" to work with so to speak
So it's as simple as having better athletes.
Isn't it also fairly easy to open enroll in NY state schools compared to other areas of the country?
1. Talent.
2. Talent
3. Talent
4. A controlling coach that gets buy in from athletes and parents.
5. Good community
That is what it takes to be good.
On a side note I feel AP classes are the biggest bunch of crap and a drain of educational resources. Kids are taking 5 or 6 AP classes and sleeping 3 hours a night. I wish I had the pull to stop this nonsense too. If you are only doing academics I get it. But throw in high level sports, clubs, Etc. And it's too much.

Talent, talent, talent is not something that one is blessed with from the womb. Everyone has to learn how to sit up, crawl, stand, walk, jump, run. Those who learn how to move more effectively are deemed "talented", as if they had little to do with their success and it was all a gift from above.
These kids are becoming more talented by doing more efficacious workouts, drills, living the simple life, etc.

I think you may be on to something. FM is following the same formula these great college teams have - "recruiting".
