You do not have to run 2:03 to be successful at the marathon. You just have to run 2:07/8 when it counts. Look at the current Olympic and World Champion.
As far as i know, Ritz has a better 5k pr and Ritz is more of a road runner and Ritz finished ahead of Legat in a half marathon, so it's still not given.

Not really. Rupp has issues running in a tight pack. He is more likely than other runner crash over a fallen runner--slow reflexes.

A 26:44 10k runner, who is better at that event than the 5k, he can break 2:05 and low to mid 30s is not a major obstacle. Any losses in mile speed will not hurt him at an event where world record pace is 4:41.

I think you have some mistakes on the Geb line, he ran 3:31 indoor and 8:01 outdoor
Rupp's 10K is is obviously excellent & his best so far. Disagree with OP's assertion that his performance goes down with increasing distance.
My only concern would be Salazar's **RELATIVE** lack of success coaching 26.2.

Rupp did fall in his 60:30 nyc hm and anyone who has run that course knows it's not the fasest out there.
I do believe rupp will hold the AR in the half before long and if he trained specifically for the half instead of racing during a buildup could threaten 58:xx
The marathon is a different story, he has the potential to run 2:03-2:04 if he even steps up to the marathon. Soo much can go wrong during 26 miles but even if it did he would most likely be the fastest american on the scene none the less.
Ummmm.... no. I was comparing indoor times in the 2 mile (rupp has no outdoor two mile time) and comparing outdoor 1500m times as rupp has no indoor 1500m... Hence how both 1500m times have "(outdoor)" and both 2 mile times have "(indoor)" after them... Do you have a complete Middle School education?

Ryan Hall is the fastest American ever over the marathon distance. Until Rupp, or any other American for that matter, runs a marathon faster, all else is just theory and conjecture.
I believe that three American athletes have run under 60:30 for half marathon.
Here are their marathon PBs on record eligible courses: 2h05+, 2h06+, 2h07+.
These are the top three times ever run by Americans.
Half marathon capability may not assure good marathoning but it is essential.
It accounts for the bulk of variance in marathon race times.
No one knows. Tadesse never ran a good marathon after all,
Factors in Rupp's favor:
He avoids injury
He races with patience and sticks to a game plan.
He has developed good strength and maintains form
He has the talent to run fast time at 5000 through HM
Odd are good that he can run well eventually (2:07)". It's a bit shocking that no one in the US has moved up to run 2:10. It's just the same zips guys year after year.
He will not break 2:11 if he chooses to debut in New York. New York pays Americans better than any other marathon but the course does not lead to success as a debut course. Many Top Americans have made this mistake.
