Based on these results, it's pretty obvious Wisconsin lacked a 5th man. Then throw in a bad race from one of their top 4, and they had no chance at winning the NCAA title. Jerry Schumacher was a great recruiter, but had trouble with getting the whole team to race well at NCAAs ( minus 2005)
In regards to the course record falling, the course ran a little slower back in 2004, at least on average (I wasn't there on that day, so I can't say necessarily what the day-to-day weather was like). This is because the XC course was farmland until 2003, and the footing was considerably more uneven in the first few years after it was dedicated as a course. Regular maintenance has made it a lot smoother, although there are clearly still the same rolling hills. Hard to say how much faster the 2004 Bairu could have gone this year, but I am pretty confident he would have won fairly easily.
I thought Michigan State was an all-Michigan squad, too

Yeah I was told by a coach at Heps yesterday that she was injured and would not be running, but i wasn't allowed to post it. I believe she's done for the year...
Not sure if it's a stress fracture or not.
Sad to see. The dream of the all michigan squad winning it is officially gone.
Their 7th-Katie Landwehr-ruins it. She's from Ohio.
