Rap has been commercialized from when it was more underground in the late 80s and 90s.
And because you don't understand what someone is saying doesn't mean the lyrics are sub par, I can't understand most opera due to me not being able to speak Italian, but that doesn't mean the lyrics are basic.
"Rap is nothing but a basic beat". Ok you produce me a beat that sound like a pete rock or dj premier beat and see how easy it is or even a RZA beat (Wu Tang), who makes also of instrumentals for films so I would not say his beat is basic. Apart from classical and jazz most music has a generic beat they follow.
Hardcore rap fans will never say the best part is the chorus because all the 90s classic didn't have a female vocalist on the chorus (apart from B.I.G) it's like me saying the best part of the beetles songs were the chorus because everyone can sing along because it's repetative.
Here are quality rap lyrics with personification of a gun, by nas.
"Always I’m in some s**t, my abdomen is the clip
The barrel’s my d**k, uncircumcised
Pull my skin back and c**k me, I bust off when they unlock me
Results of what happens to n****s that shock me"
Yea, that's an example of creativity...but not unlike a stupid dream.
