I get no pleasure from alcohol and feel like an alien in society as a result

I can't think of a single time that I've seen someone visiting a museum holding a drink, or someone hiking while holding a drink. Considering how unlikely people are to be drinking while doing those activities, shouldn't it be really easy to meet people who don't like to drink while you do those activities yourself? What about my suggestion to put up a Craigslist ad saying you're seeking similar-minded people -- anything to say about that?

Furthermore, I'm having a hard time understanding why you insist on asserting your intelligence to everyone. To draw a parallel, I don't see Ashton Eaton on here asserting that he is a faster 400m hurdles runner than most of us...and that's for someone with proof.

Lastly, I'd like to wonder how photography, mountaineering, and world travel are marks of intelligence. If you're so intelligent, shouldn't you be bragging about your prize-winning poetry, new advances in linguistics, or research nominated for a Fields medal?

Just get another group of friends. I generally behave like a Sunday School teacher, and have a group of friends that act that way. However, sometimes I want to get sh*tfaced drunk and get in a fight, and I have a group of friends for that too.

So, since apparently I need to inform you of this, you don't see people drinking while doing those activities because they're back in the bars drinking. That was my point. I gotta assume you're trolling. Can anyone be this thick? Perhaps so since you don't seem to understand even a person is a super genius (which I am not) they might still enjoy playing video games or going for walks. Very few people devote 100% of their time to mastery. My point was that all those around me seem to want to do nothing in life besides drinking and sitting around. I'm not saying they're stupid because of this. I'm saying they're boring and (imo) wasting their lives. There surely is a correlation between lack of diverse stimulation and ignorance, however.

I believe you missed my point, aline. I'm saying that there exist people who go to museums and mountaineer. Most of those people don't drink while doing those activities. Therefore, if you befriend museum-walkers and mountaineers while doing these things solo just once, you will have met people who do not drink during _all_ of their free-time.

I find it disappointing that you were unable to see my point and also disappointing that you find it necessary to resort to insults and slander.

Lastly, if I were merely trolling, why would I have created a positive message of partial empathy in my first post in this thread? This makes it twice now that you've said nothing of my CL suggestion, either. In fact, you've said nothing of the other positive suggestions that others have given before you berated them as well.

I drink because alcohol makes life tolerable.

I also drink because I'm a pretty good looking guy, and alcohol gives me that extra boost of confidence necessary to interact with women.

If we're being frank, I've never had a serious relationship and I love how drinking facilitates casual sex. I've had a decent number of enjoyable experiences with interesting and fun-loving women, thanks in part to alcohol. I'm not saying we were smashed by any means, but few things beat a little fun under the covers after a couple glasses of wine. Maybe you should try it, there are a lot of gentle, placating women out there looking for a fun night. There are also a lot of crazy ones looking for a little rough-and-tough.

Not sure about everybody wasting hours talking BS, that's not my experience.

The OP needs to understand that drinking alcohol is fun for most people. Dumb people, normal people, smart people, genius people--most people enjoy drinking alcohol. The OP is not like most people, and clearly needs to rectify those problems.

Face it, you feel like an alien because you're a social misfit not because you dislike alcohol.
