I think you are right about this. The motivator is pride in yourself. Gangbangers get them because of pride in their gang and lifestyle. People get something about their family because of pride in that.

I'm an old guy, and one of my first jobs out of college was as a jail guard in a county lock-up, big facility under a federal court order to keep its population about half of what it ever was. Never did. Old school place, lots of in-house tattoos, which were all horrible and caused lots of pain and often were infected.

All this might lead to a bias, but tattoos now are just like microbrew beer, premium coffees, and any other commodity that has been researched, detailed, and specialized. The art work is sophisticated, it seems with proper research you can avoid illness and disease, and the motivations are nearly endless in purpose and meaning.

I'd suggest the youngsters here keep an open mind. They often are a poor man's boat, and they can be a form of addiction, or community in a more positive light. However, given their prevalence and relative acceptance, that most attractive, runner-fit woman just may have some benign girls-night-out on a cheek of her lovely ass. And you will fall in love with that tattoo.

This will never happen. It hasn't in the 8 years I've read the LRC message boards. There are rare gems- which provides the intermittent reward that makes coming here more difficult to extinguish- but by and large this is a place where people post to feel better about themselves by putting other people down.

Correct. They did not need to do it. Much like they do not need to go to his grave site once a week or hang his stocking at Christmas. But, who are you to tell them how to remember and cope with the loss of a child? Some people choose to move on and lessen the pain by repressing the thought. Their matching tattoos force them to remember. A picture can be taken down, but their tattoos always will be a reminder to never forget.Let's shame people for getting their hair cut/styled certain ways. For dressing in specific styles and colors. For listening to trendy music. For driving expensive cars. For dating/marrying pretty women. For living in privileged neighborhoods.All of these could be signs of insecurities and over compensation of other character flaws.In life, everyone makes decisions and choices that other people do not agree with.
