JORDAN HASAY with 3-sec PR over 1500m

I'm not sure how you define a "brand name" in track and field. In football, baseball, and basketball you can define it by popularity and the number of jersey name's sold (I guess). If you base a "brand name" in track and field by the number of twitter followers, Jordan wins today's race by far. In fact, Jordan has 19.9K twitter followers versus 15.7K followers for Jenny Simpson. In the world of Track and Field, I would say Jordan is a "brand name".

I think there were a lot more disappointing results in Men's 5K, than Hasay's new PR at 1500 as a 5 and 10K runner

Really? Rail on some of those for a while, guys could not get to 8:00 and be in that one?

If a very generous 10% of her Twitter followers buy a nike shoe solely because of JH, and nike makes $10 per pair, they get a return of $20,000. It'd probably be smarter just to have her sweeping floors like any other clown college grad; they'd save a ton of money.

Do you really believe that on the day Kidane averaged 69.84 seconds per lap for 12.5 laps -- she would not have been capable of averaging better than 68.14 seconds per lap for 3.75 laps? Significantly better, no matter what her specialty is?

Put another way, she ran 3 1/3 1500s back to back in 4:21.91. And she has a 3000m PR of 8:36.39 (4:18.19 twice, for those scoring at home). And here's a big surprise for you -- the 4:15 was run in an earlier calendar year (2002) than her 14:33 and her 30:07 (both 2003).

I'll go out on the same very thick, very sturdy limb as the other guy and propose that claiming that Hasay is eight seconds faster than Kidane over 1500, while true on paper, is more than a huge, frantic reach into the dark folds of your own rectum.

By the way, Kidane's 20K PR is listed as 1:07:35, yet her half-marathon best is 1:07:28. By your reckoning, I guess she should be popping about a 1:05:00 marathon sometime before she turns 50. Or is that too conservative?

She went out at AR pace, so yes she died. Has nothing to do with whether she has a kick. Nobody in the world has a kick when they've crossed that redline. Try learning something about running before posting again.

Hasay can go faster and probably will. She could have done this last year probably when she ran her 8:46 pr. She's having a great year for herself.

People have been saying so and so will crush her for years. Most of those people from HS and college can't hold a candle to her now. So please refrain from stupid comments about people dusting her in a few years.

4:05-4:06

8:35-40

15:00-15:05

31:00-31:15

1:10:00-1:10:30

She's a fine runner and has been for many years. She didn't burn out or flame out as many assured the world she would when she was lighting it up as a high-school frosh. The flip side of this is that unless she proves to be a Geb-like monster, she's probably not going to make any colossal leaps. Even a pure distance runner like Flanagan matched her 14:44 and 8:33 year with a 4:05.8, and it's unreasonable to expect Hasay to achieve a similar profile. Relative to a Flanagan or a Radcliffe, Hasay actually has more speed; just just simply not as "good" and unlikely to be. I hope I'm wrong, but I think the next two years will define what she'll be able to ultimately do by the time she's 30 or 32 and either holding on for dear life of starting to slip.

Because she has the most powerful track agent in the world. So if a meet promoter is filling up his field he will rather take an athlete from an agent he has a good relationship with than from an agent who may be unreliable.

Spot on , its a favor , Ill get so and so to run if you give me a lane for Jordan , its done all the time. Meet director hopes Jordan will develop and down the road if she goes to the next level will remember the favor and run in the meet.

I keep hearing how Jordan Hasay is a "brand", has Twitter followers, is the closest thing to a household name, etc. But can somebody explain to me, exactly WHAT IS this brand? I seriously don't understand. All I see is a moderately talented second-tier elite athlete who has nice hair. She seems nice enough, but then so does everybody. She's never run a shockingly fast time, like Mary Cain, and she's not flat-out gorgeous. I think Jennifer Simpson is better-looking, and a way better runner.

So what is the appeal? Is it just that she built up so much momentum as a high school phenom that it hasn't run out yet? If you were one of her hugest fans, and I was a newcomer to the sport, how would you explain to me why I am supposed to be a big fan of Jordan Hasay?

I think that you do understand actually. You more or less said it in your post.

She was a cute kid with a long ponytail who won FL as a freshman. She continues to try hard and is still seen as a cute kid with a long ponytail. That is her appeal. Take it for what it is.

It's a good job she got a pr what would you lot be moaning about is she ran 3 seconds slower than her pr!

Indicates she is in pr form for the longer distances as well

As someone who has been following her running for a while, tenacity is one of the biggest things that I really like about Hasay. You could see this way back in high school in numerous cases, the biggest one being winning FL as a 9th grader, not giving up/giving in to the critics after 10th/11th grade and coming back and winning again as a 12th grader.

There are also numerous examples of how she always comes back from an off day/off race, and always keeps at it. Sure she may not be running as fast as Jenny Barringer Simpson just yet, but I think a lot of people forget that she's still only 22. She's consistently chipping off time and improving each year, and this combined with her great work ethic and determination shows a lot of promise down the road.

She also has a huge following of people who saw her show this grit in high school, and she ran times that hadn't been run in ages (and was also excellent at BOTH xc/track). In a way, one could even say she is one of the reasons behind the current golden age of HS girls distance running - talk to all the top runners today and many will say Hasay is one of their favorite runners. She broke through some barriers and showed that you can run fast young and stay fast. On top of all this, she is a likable athlete and fun to watch/cheer for.

I do not like Hasay very much. Simpson, Rowbury, Flanagan, and Coburn are WOMEN. Hasey's just a very highly over-protected little kewpie doll. It's too bad she willingly committed to being in the insulated NOP bubble. It's great she PR'd but if she were a guy she'd be a 4:08 miler with 4:05 being her top end potential..
