Agip, how do we get cheaters permanently banned? The decision makers are making the wrong decisions.

I don't disagree that Mitchell shouldn't have been chosen. But I am completely sick of Fleshman, who I actually rooted for when she competed. If she thinks she can sit there and politicize each t&f headline, pontificate on it publicly and make a career out of that, she's mistaken. Social media may make stars out of some (Gary vaynerchuk, guy kawasaki) but those individuals bring skills and persona off the boards as well. Sadly she feels this is her best option to... something.
The sport needs a voice and nobody is talking. Lauren has started all of us talking and put it out there. Like her format or not its effective. Remove yourself from her running career and focus on the content of her message.
Unfortunately the structure of USATF allows for untouchable corruption and self protection much like organized crime. Its very clear that the governing body is untouchable and non accountable and will do what they want when they want with who they want. Current active athletes are afraid to voice an opinion , coaches who want to be invited to teams stay mum.
The only threat that could bring about change is to reach out to the sponsors who supply the money to USATF. If a couple of the majors pulled their dollars we might see a different organization.

I think the answer is journalism -the brojos do good work exposing this sort of thing.
If the NYT or WSJ wrote an expose about how doping is still condoned at USATF...that would change things. If at press conferences athletes and usatf officials were forced to answer questions about this sort of thing...they would stop making these decisions.
things are happening - athletes are fighting back and stories are coming out.
But the poster on the earlier page who wrote about race being a factor is right - this will pretty immediately turn into a racial political battlefield, so be ready for that.
Don't know anything about the messenger, but has many good points.
Actions speak louder than words- Lauren, Nick, or anyone else complaining needs to actually get involved with USATF in some leadership capacity and try to right the ship. At least Will Leer has figured it out.
Great quote - we need more like her to speak up. I don't about others here, but I think the opinion of a Stanford grad who's also a multiple NCAA and US Nationals champion deserves my respect.
Fleshman sure does seem to like attention, sort of like Suzy FH. Seems like she's making it her job these days to say things like this. Kinda annoying.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like a doper "coaching" for the US team but Fleshman needs to find a different hobby haha.
Agree with Lauren. In fact I would go further and not select any convicted doper for any national team, or let them compete in any meet USATF organized. If convicted dopers can be kept out of US diamond league events then lets do that too.
Maybe now it is an openly professional sport (showing my age a bit) some employment laws apply but let the dopers sue and have their tarnished history exposed to the world again and see what happens to their sponsors.
It is also about time those doing the commentary on the broadcasts grew a set and at least mentioned doping histories when certain athletes compete or asking about it in post-race interviews. Not mentioning it implies acceptance.
There should be a permanent ban and lots of prison time for first time dopers. Seizure of bank accounts and houses should be used to pay back the stolen money. None of this nastiness is going away as long as you all tolerate the likes of salazar, rupp, radcliffe, centro, NOPe, nike and their doping cousins. Preemptive bans and removal of records for all currently suspected and known dopers (especially NOPers) is warranted. We need to start from scratch.
Fleshman is right about a third of the time, but I wish she would keep her yap shut all of the time. Her desperate and pathetic pleas for attention are annoying.

It sends a global message that USATF is willing to overlook a cheaters past and give them the highest honor in our sport. It shows that they are no longer following their Zero Tolerance policy. It shows that Team USA is soft on drugs. That we don’t take doping seriously. Frankly it’s something I’d expect from Turkey or Russia or the USA of the 80′s, but not the USATF of the past 8 years. It’s like putting someone who has formerly served time for fraud in charge of your bank. Or a convicted child abuser in charge of your day care. Even if Dennis Mitchell has paid the price for his actions in the past, there is simply no place for him as a national team coach. He effects the reputation of every single clean athlete he is associated with. He casts a shadow on USATF as a whole. I wish him a fantastic life, but I don’t want him or his wife involved in my sport in any position of influence or leadership.
Who wrote this garbage - wejo or Lauren? No apostrophe on "cheater's", give him or her - not them, 80s not the 80's, misusing "effect" for "affect", should be "with whom he is associated with."
Did Lauren, a Stanford grad, actually write that? That is embarrassing. More indicative of a community college flunky. She needs to quit blogging - she is an uneducated woman. Really pathetic.
Max, since you seem to have executive power on most everything, please draw the line. You need to be the strictest of all when it comes to zero tolerance of doping, or you screw us all."

Says someone who then proceeds to screw up the simple procedure of responding to a quoted reply. Really pathetic indeed.

So no proof, nothing concrete, nor even a morsel of evidence and we should start burning people based on LR accusations? It's idiots like you that keep mob mentality alive and well. On another note, has Letsrun officially decimated every bridge? Is there a a single athlete, coach or training group that hasn't been defamed or demoralized by Letsrun? When are we going to realize that Lestrun is a cancer to our sport?

A few points being overlooked regarding Fleshman's attitude towards men:1) Fleshman compared Mitchell to a child molester. She is doing it using word association. She's calling him a rapist, a child rapist. That's a female labeling a male, that's a female labeling males, that's severe defamation of character. If both F and M were men pre-1850's, there would be a duel. Fleshman should censored, sued and shunned. 2) Fleshman quotes "Zero Tolerance," a term currently used by miltant feminist teachers regarding intolerance toward elementary school boys and middle school boys who behave like normal rambunctious boys in school. For the sake of our young boys being educated overwhelmingly by females in an environment that oppresses them, please be aware of this subtle point.3) Be aware that those who do not vocalize against Fleshman are silently voicing their own complicity.

You're not a voice for men, you're a voice for dopers of any gender.

2) Fleshman quotes "Zero Tolerance,"
Zero tolerance types are the most intolerant people there are. Fleshman is one of most intolerant people there is--holier than thou. She is guilty of something, and claiming a super-purity level is her way of covering for her personal defects.
I wish we could get rid of all the dopers and all the egomaniacs.

Wow, not everyone is a champion all the time. There is only won gold medallist in each event, so everyone else isn't good enough, then?
Her point on this is well stated and is absolutely correct. The USATF are absolutely crazy now. Crazytown.
Effect and affect - she has no clue - pathetic
