True. If Rupp had a different coach I'd actually somewhat like him. Then again he wouldn't be as good and would have a little more substance as far as publicity goes anyway.

Just watched the replay of the 2nd half of the 3k. Lagat did to Hill what Hill did to Rupp what Lomong did to Rupp. Bumby, the only one DQ'd, didn't do anything! He must have been Salazar's pound of flesh.

Crazy scene. Looking fwd to hearing inside scoop on these two good points about Gabe's DQ from Mark Wieczorek:

1. If there was conclusive video evidence, I am not content with Hasay withdrawing the protest.

2. If there was no new evidence, that would mean that USATF very directly and intentionally lied to manipulate the race results and cheat the deserving winner out of her spot and financial earnings.

You're somewhat right about Lomong but, as for Hill, he had a 7:34 3000m mark coming in. He had a very legit shot at Rupp. He only finished one second behind him and might have beaten him with a different strategy.

Also, I don't think Hill knew he was cutting off Rupp. He doesn't have eyes in the back of his head.

Lomong, however, did purposely go all out to prevent Rupp from taking the lead, and Salazar could reasonably conclude that it was part of a team strategy rather than Lomong maximizing his own chances.

Salazar's reaction, though was very unreasonable and uncalled for. That kind of stuff happens all the time and Salazar would do it himself if he thought it would help his best athlete in the race.

I went to NAU with Lopez. He's one of the odd distance guys that can actually physically handle himself. It would have been great, and justified, if he one-punched that bitter little weasel.

Yeah Rupp needs to just go out there and run. After all, he only has a few American records, the 16th fastest 10k in history (the fastest by a non-African), and an Olympic silver medal.

It's truly mindbottling to think what he might do if he just "quit worrying about all the crap and just went out there and ran"!

In response to why doesn't our hero, Galen, finish his degree. It obviously has to do with finishing the most important tasks first: winning medals at the most important meets: Olympics, World Championships, and big money events. The degree can come later when the medal work is done, and the Rupp medal count is high. There is no need to lose precious training time to college classes.
