For all the dreamers out there - Webb is heading out into the world with no education. His wife doesn't work and he has a kid to support. Nobody makes a career out of running anymore.
He has an education. Finished at GMU with a B.S. in economics.
If he does a bit of research he could hit all the small money road races around the country and pull in a working class income. that with whatever he has saved up(doesn't he have a house and mercedes?) can be fine. End his career on a more dignified comback level... maybe make one more USA team and turn that into some sort of rep career with a shoe company....

My bad. I didn't know he picked up a degree at George Mason. That was a good move.
I'm sure Webb made great money while he was with Nike, especially during the years when he was performing really well.
That said, maybe he will get picked up by somebody else. Webb is a sell no matter where he goes. People, including myself still love to see him race and he still attracts far more attention than most guys running faster than him. I'm actually a bit surprised Nike dropped him.
Unless he has a few mill set aside then he needs to be looking at other ways to make money

100% agree, someone needs to tell him it's okay to stop...bro is so far away from running his PR's it isn't even funny. He is doing this still, because he literally has no idea what else to do.

You guys are ridiculous. The guy just stopped getting paid by Nike and everyone is telling him to hang it up. Of course he has something socked away to live on for the moment. Gear/travel/facilities will get the job done. Marcus is a friend and I'm sure he is coaching and helping for free. Webb is only 31. He has several great years left. I applaud him for trying something different with his training. Corporate jobs suck. He will be able to get one any time he wants.
Hmm , thats funny as I just spoke with a nike friend who said the opposite.
Actually many athletes being see it as a paid profession.
I feel like Webb could still land a solid contract with any company. He obviously has some pretty solid name recognition.

I agree that he should run as long as he likes but I don't know that he can get a corporate job that easily. Imagine hiring a 31 year old intern with no experience. That's going to be rough. It will be rough for any athlete that has put off corporate life until their thirties. I think he'll need to be creative in finding a post-athletic career.
Brooks Beast should sign him. They need another strength-based miler to train with Heath.

Anywhere where the person making the hiring decision runs, check, he's in. I mean, come on, I like to try not to be biased, but if I got a resume from Alan Webb and he was skilled enough to be marginally successful at the job he was applying for, I'd hire him in a heartbeat.

Triathlon has been waiting patiently for him for so long now. It's time for him to heed the call.
He is too heavy to compete at the top in running. IF he could lose 7-10 pounds AND not lose any aerobic capacity he could compete again with the big dogs in running, but at this point in his career the only way he could lose that much weight is if someone captures him, takes him to 15,000' and doesn't feed him more than 1000 calories a day for 2 months straight. I doubt that is going to happen.
His weight is perfect for Triathlon. They would be excited at the possibility of what he could do and he could capitalize on that. No brainer.

You obviously don't run a business then. Or, operate in a function that is involved with hiring for a business. If your job/money is on the line you aren't going to take a huge risk just because Alan Webb submitted a lackluster resume. Part of being successful is setting aside influences and making the correct business decision.

Also, it's clear you don't know what you are talking about.
Any time you hire ANYONE you take on a huge risk, so hiring someone that was in the top .0000001% of something/ANYTHING minimizes risk because you can assume that if someone is hard working and driven.
One more point - Webb will generate interests for the rest of this life. When people Google Alan Webb in 10 years they will know where he works. A business wants to hire someone who is/was high profile because it states that high profile, successful, driven individuals are part of the organization.
