I am way older than 35, have a good class history degree from one of the UK's more highly rated universities and currently own a bookshop - so I have read and still read a lot of books. I enjoyed OAR! Yes, it is a work of fiction not a training manual, yes the setting must seem a bit strange to a runner who wasn't around in the '70s (but as a Brit with limited appreciation of the US college system I managed to adapt!) but to my mind the author does understand what is entailed mentally and physically in grafting your way to the top level in middle distance running.
Not a perfect book but a good read. Any other suggestions for running fiction? I have read "Pain" and "Carrying The Flame". Any others?
