Your book list makes you look insecure and selfish. Ayn Rand is laughed at in every ENGL department I have worked in--just in case you thought you were being intellectual. Try LeGuin's Dispossessed if you want an actual utopian exercise. It might not justify your trust fund though...

So the english department your work in dictates what is a good book or not? How does this list make me look selfish? How to win Friends and Influence People is about understanding people. About how it doesn't do you any good to be a dick for no reason. For example, like you just felt the need to be a d-bag and shit on my opinion of books. Great Gatsby is about selfishness?

Im also a big Fan of Noam Chomsky who talks a lot about brain washing in the media. Maybe you should actually have an opinion instead of just listening to what everyone else says in your department. Stop trying to feel socially accepted and actually be yourself. Thats what I get from Any Rands Novels.

I love Nabokov. This book is a stunning literary achievement in its complexity of themes, form, and interwoven plot. That being said, I think it's my third favorite of his. Lolita is pretty brilliant itself, but I have to say Ada, or Ardor: A Family Chronicle is my favorite. The language is beautiful and playful, the love story is heart wrenching, and Nabokov, as always, manages to confuse our moral compasses.

The true story of 1936 Olympian Louie Zamperini who went on to crash land a plane in WWII and survived a month and a half stranded at sea. Incredible story. A must for any runner.

Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. Wonderful treatise on individualism.

I am not a big Ayn Rand follower. I had to abandon reading Atlas Shrugged. Got way too redundant.

being the voracious reader that i am i've read this book at least half a dozen times. each time through i'm struck by the characters, and the endless layers of nuance that reveal themselves. should be mandatory reading for all self absorbed, vile loathsome people.

I'm not a fan of his book list either, but at least he contributed constructively. You are the one that appears insecure and selfish.
