Oh man- how badly does LetsRun think Cain could beat the HS marathon phenom in a marathon with a few months of training? Anyone? I'd guess 5-10 minutes with a six months to a year of training.

If she was being going with Mizuno it would be big news
So if she retroactively collects prize money, I'd say she should lose any marks counted as high school set. Granted, she didn't run any record times after nationals so it may be a mute issue.
That leads me to this, it's a shame she couldn't have waited until this coming summer to go pro, it would have been nice to see if she could have put these records way out of reach.

Amateur status has nothing to do with high school records, as we currently keep them. All that's required is that you're a high school student in the US.

Dumb, uninformed comment. Mary is a good student at Bronxville High School in Bronxville, NY, which is an excellent high school in an expensive suburb. In school, she is surrounded by many fellow students with Ivy-league academic potential. I believe she would fit in quite nicely in such an environment, socially and academically.
If she signed with Nike and Salazar she probably left at least a half-million on the table. Hopefully she'll have staying power and that half-million won't matter.
Salazar has a great network and cares about his athletes success so it's understandable Mary would stay with him and Nike. With the amount Alberto harps on mechanics and the fact Cain runs nearly identically to how she did her freshman year in high school, I hope they at least considered other coaches might in fact be better with her development and other sponsors would have paid her more.
People, good chance she'll try to have a normal college experience at an Ivy and train pm her own with a satellite coach. Places like Yale and Harvard have famous kids and superstars from other walks of life who aren't hastled or treated much differently. She'd be just another goofy kid with a talent for running. That's my call.

This. The fact that her parents emphasized in the press release that she's a straight-A student should point any speculation in this direction...

That is why nobody, but nobody, from Bronxville H.S. gets admitted to an Ivy who is not a jock. I know the school well, including faculty, and I know the demographics of this village. Look at a list of the last graduating class, and who went where.
They have no one in the school system who would not get destroyed by poor kids in the South Bronx in chess -- poor kids with single Moms, who recently won the national championship. No, they can't live in Bronxville, and if these kids walked down a street there they'd get hauled in by the cops.

I'm in the minority here .
I think a chance for a college experience is something special. Friends and experiences for life. I know I'll take a beating from some. But, she would become a more than a phenom while at University of Oregon.
I get that she can still go to college with the money she makes, etc etc. But, I really think she would have had a great time, even if it was just one year.
