Any thoughts on running a PR on this course compared to Philly? Thinking about my 1st marathon next year but feel I would need some people to run with. I am an older wannabee and would hope for a sub 2:33, but just not much company in that range. Do you think going to somewhere like Philly or going 4 wks earlier and doing Chi Town would give an old first timer a better shot at hitting a time.

2:30:51
The 50-54 record is 2:37:36
De Reuck's time today: 2:39:22
For the non-Masters American age-group or single age records, these were available on
until about 2008.
They are gone now, and are not on

it looks like the US Women's age 16 record is the same as
the US High School record:

And her name was Cathy Schiro at that time, as noted earlier.

You would be able to pace off of half runners through 7 miles. From 7 miles to the half mark it could get pretty lonely, but the second half of this course runs VERY fast. Assuming the wind is on your side, it is faster than Chicago. Obvious advantage to Chicago at least is the crowd support.
Still in my opinion the Monumental course is fast enough to make up for the lack of support in certain parts of the course.
Collen's Mark is a pending SINGLE-AGE US Record (F49). The current record is 2:51:19.
Alana's mark is 7 minutes off Cathy's junior record and F16 single-age record.

What's wrong with YOU? A 49 y.o. just ran 2:39 to win and break the course record- that's far more impressive than a 2:16 no name Kenyan, whom they couldn't give a hoot about even listing his name. For once I'd like to see an impressive woman get the major headline.

Colleen and her husband are the best one two punch for USA LDR. They are both a class act, and Colleen is a great example of how someone can be successfull in ldr without drugs or cheating.

I think your chances of a getting a PR in your first marathon are pretty good either way.
I can't believe there is not any chatter that this girl is only 16 and ran a marathon. She is very talented and has a bright future. Seems really early to me to be running a marathon.
