As soon as I saw Hall was going to run a 10k I knew he was just going to tempo through it. "Paid workout", not more, not less. He does it all the time and many RD are cool with it (e.g. NYRR's Mary Wittenberg).
It doesn't tell us anything. And considering that he hasn't raced in years (without a DNF), it would have been great for him as well to get a reality check.
Oh well...
Meb, Hall, "has beens" Uh, Meb was 4th in the Olympic Marathon last year. Hall will surprise everyone this year in NYC!

Hall is a true marathoner, he doesn't go balls out on these 10ks. Not saying he could have won the thing, but hes in better shape that what today indicated. Also has to be pretty careful with injuries, if he stays healthy (and finishes) for NYC a sub 2:10 is probable.

I agree that this was a "paid tempo" but he went in saying he wanted to run 4:40 pace and also wanted to run a faster pace than he did at Bay to Breakers and Peach Tree. He wanted to see some progression and he did not achieve his goal.

No, no one said anything about a "paid tempo." It was a race, but this "race" would be like Lagat racing a 400. Not much expectation.
