I agree with that assessment. But at least he was right, I wish more people would be right, both positive and negative. Personally, I'm very disappointed in all this, I think watching the Rio games will now be different for me.
Your prognostication adds nothing helpful to the discussion of the situation in which the sport finds itself. You know none of the things you claim. We are in a place where, because of the staggering corruption, everyone stinks--but it does not help to bring down a 'Reign of Terror' in which accusations are made with no proof, no knowledge. This is an anarchic moment in the history of the sport, similar to the period after Louis XVI was overthrown and violence errupted in Paris. Most of the killing was not by the guillotine; it was petty murder by people settling personal scores. You wish to engage in a sort of character assassination based on inference, but you have nothing like the necessary information to back your claim. Is every Jamaican a cheat. Possibly but unlikely. Will we ever know the full truth--even less likely. I'd rather we call on Coe to open IAAF up to outside receivership and totally clean house--rather that than just casting accusations about individual athletes, making claims that could be wrong. Yes ... I realize you 'know' you are right--but in the rest of us mortals want anodyne facts, rather than Messianic visions.

To be fair, he was also right about Mo Farah's best of 12.9 over 100m. That can't really be labelled as positive or negative though.
How so? Coe's response in reference to allegations of a cover up is that because the way the system is designed any attempt to cover up a doping case will inevitable fail:
"No doping case has been covered up and if attempts were made in relation to a limited number of cases, as has been recently revealed, they all failed. The IAAF is very confident that the WADA report confirms this."

Savinova and Poistogova in the 8, admitted doping in a documentary in 2015.
Zaripova in the steeple, Pischaldnikova in the discus, and Chernova in the hep have been banned for doping.
Antyukh in the 400mH (withdrew from World's this year) and Kolodko in the shot have not yet been implicated. Lysenko in the hammer had a doping ban from 2007 to 2009 but has come back to win golds since without testing positive.

That leaves the relay medalists, plus two in the hj and Isinbayeva in the pv. It seems unlikely that any Russians were not doping and I am not sure whether the 8 protected were not subsequently banned.

A Russian male gold medalist in the race walk was banned. Diack gave a detailed interview. Those are facts.

Since Carter got busted I went back and read some old SG threads. Here's something he said in this one that particularly stands out to me:
"Diack evidences how this whole thing, like many things in life that are tied to institutions, has been flipped entirely on its head. While the institution should exist to serve athletes and competitors at all levels, it has instead become primarily concerned with its own prosperity, power, and influence."
We can look back now and see that SG was essentially correct about Diack, as well as about other things. SG, if you are lurking, I would like to hear your take on the evolution of the institutions. What do you think of things going forward?
