I think right now Mo can be there at the end whether it's a sit and kick or time-trial style of a race where folks are rolling from the gun. The only way I can see someone beating him is for them to pull an "El-G" move, where they gradually wind the pace down every 50m the last mile. Other than that, no one has a shot at beating him--except Rupp.
none of them are in sub-12.50 shape this year and so
they can't drop Farah. Either way, he is a lock.
How fast can Rupp close in a slow 10000m? 52?

I am a HUGE fan of Farah. This should be pretty obvious. I was afraid that training with Rupp would lead to him ducking, DNSing and DNFing a lot like Rupp does, but Farah is a tough man and loves to race. At first I wished he'd gone with the pacers today, but I actually posted that it was SMART of him to take the win his way if the field handed it to him.
Now, stop with all of the anti-gay stuff in your posts. You can call me a loser if you want (although you might want to question yourself for using grade-school insults, and it just calls attention to the fact you never have anything useful to say).

What is KNOWN is that they DEFINITELY CAN'T race him just from 4600.
Think the issue for Eth and Kenya is that they have not had a clear top guy in a few years. They don't know who to set up in a championship. But they at deep enough that Jelian and Merga got 1-3 in 2011.
If the top guys are all capable of about 12:50 then it is hard then they go as individuals or set up the guy with the best close. Unfortunately, Farah can close just as well or better.

Didn't see the meet but I know the angle you're talking about and I love that shot. I remember watching a crystal palace 5k of Mottram stalking Bekele on the last lap... With 150 to go you could see Bekele accelerate with a slight glance over his shoulder and Mottrams face just tied up with the injection of pace. It was riveting and I thought why the hell can't every race be shown this way?

Take notes, Flotrack. If you expect people to pay as much as you charge for live streams, etc. this is the standard that you are being compared to!
They've fallen asleep with old tactics , plain and simple. It took us long enough to realize work on the kick , a big kick with real speed. Now the rest of the world or at least Mo's world are there. Talking with an agent who works with Ethiopians recently , said , its simple , they know they have to run faster and it can no longer be left to a kick.
Even though some don't enjoy the sit and kick and it is weird how they play right into his hand I for one enjoy seeing the east africans get beat now and then. It's nice to see someone mix it up for once and it will be interesting to see how the respond.

Some of these analyses are pretty rich. I'm guessing many of you weren't around in the 90's? Geb ran this way in nearly every race and what we all thought was so unbelievable was the way he could throw on the jets and just create massive separation in that last 200m-400m, then he'd smile into the finishing line with his index fingers waving like a complete f^ing boss.
The comparison isn't an attempt to compare Farah to Geb's dominance in running back then, but the tactics are the same minus the Geb's phalanx of team pacers and lead-out crew. The boys in Birmingham today are first rate. If they thought the could bury Farah with a fast pace they would have pressed. They clearly thought a fast close was to their advantage.
Given Ethiopia's 4 runners in the 10k, they should have two sit & kick on Farah, while two make a break from a long way out ... And conveniently not do any work to close the gap.

You make some very good points. Mo might be able to handle a hard pace all the way. However, his success in fast last lap races is very high, and, as you pointed out, he he has yet to be tested in a championship race with a hard pace from the gun, or least a komen-like very hard mile in the middle. At this point it would be just dumb for his competitors to bank on: MAYBE we will get lucky and Mo's kick will fail him today. At the very least, they need to control the race in the later stages of the races. They always let him lead and slow down the pace at crucial junctures. Last year in London (OG), from a tactical standpoint, what the E. Africans let Mo do in the 5k was criminal. Let him take the lead slow it way down, and then get the jump on the kick. Gebremeskel was in like 7th or 8th place at the gun, and had to weave around all those guys and make up 15m. And he still almost caught Mo. If he had taken control of the race with 800 to go, and got the jump on Mo, he would have won, I have absolutely no doubt about it.
Today, at least the Eth's were right on him and ready for his kick, and pushed a bit earlier, but it was still too little too late.
if they are four, he can conveniently be boxed by three of them.
