Yes, if that split was accurate, which it seemed like it was...Webb probably went out in high 41? and around 56-57ish. Nothing that would phase the old Webb, but he's not that guy, and it was the first time i'd seen him stick his nose into a decent pace this year. I think it was good for him, but think he would have run better off a 44.0/58.5 start. I expected him to fade much worse when i saw the early pace, and from the title of the thread.

Screw Webb! Read the writing on the wall and hang them up... He has turned into the Tim Tebow of Track... We keep talking about the most irrelevant runner in Track like Tebow is the most pointless team mate in the NFL.

Webb looked fine everybody. He's just a few months behind because he missed the entire winter season due to injury. If he was running a 4 minute mile indoors we'd say he's doing fine, right on track to put up some decent times for the spring season.

Instead, he's in 4 minute mile shape now for the spring season, so he'll be ready to put up some decent times in the summer season. I'm not going to say "WEBB will break 13!!!!" but I'd say Webb will probably be able to get down to a 13:20 by the end of the summer season.

Then hopefully he'll do USA XC with the Schumacher group next fall, do indoor nationals and then be on track to qualify for the IAAF continental cup next summer.

Then, assuming he's injury free for all of this, he'll have a decent shot at worlds in 2015.

As long as he's injury free I don't think there's any need to talk about triathlon or retirement. If he gets another injury like his achilles injury in 2009, then maybe retire because he could turn into Adam Goucher with all his injuries, but assuming he doesn't get hurt like that again then I think he's doing fine.

Yeah it is sad. But he's made a lot of money from Nike and could be the American record holder for many years. The high school mile record might be around until Webb is Bannister's age. Webb can speak at running camps and shake hands with Footlocker winners. That should be enough. If not, he could always be an escort in Vegas.

They're really not neck-deep in the circuit. How many track races in Europe did Bumby, Robby Andrews, Elliott Heath, Ben True and other guys that just missed making the Olympic team run? Very few.
