Read the NCAA rule book their are specific rules for summer camps that cover recruiting material, tryouts, college athletes doing a "workout" with HS students....

he wasn't paid and his parents paid for all his costs, including sal's coaching, so rupp was not a professional. stanford would be a good fit but she has salazar as a coach, so it's oregon. you can get a great education at any major state school, because while your fellow students will not be anywhere comparable on average to stanford (probably somewhere between 100 and 400 will be, but the class will be much bigger), your professors will typically have the same pedigree and be publishers. in science and technology, however, the facilities and connections at Stanford are nowhere equalled.

Stanford has been providing such connections to wealth in recent years that I wonder if it is hard to keep motivated in track when you could just join a new company with your friends and be a millionaire a few years out.

What happened was technically not okay. An unofficial visit can only begin once a prospect has finished competing, left campus and returned to talk with personnel from the coaching staff.

1. Recruiting in our sport is the most awful thing I have ever seen. There is no effort by these coaches whatsoever. But they do all fight over the top dog. Baffling to me but whatever. Good to see the coaches hit the pavement. Take a page from football and work for it.

2. How can volleyball players commit as sophomores but coaches can't even talk to a kid? Sad.

3. Mary Cain will go pro. Hardly a violation.

I've heard of a case in which an AAU basketball tourny was being held on a campus. The basketball coaching staff of that school couldn't even use their offices to view the prospects, never mind bump into them to say hello.

I don't know what the rules were for Pre as they apply to the Ducks.

But I'm sure they were very specific. Either they were followed or they weren't (forget about the gray area).

This thread was very predictable. Everybody should have known what was expected of them with regard to 2014 class prospects and incidental contact.

Being fairly close to the program, I think Andy and Maurica Powell both have a lot to learn, and are WAY over their heads at Oregon.

They are much too young to administer and direct a running program the size of Oregon with all the expectations and tremendous athletes. They are fortunate athletes are attending the school just based on tradition.

I believe when the coaching changes occurred, Vin Lannana sponsored the Powells since he was the one who recruited them as assistant coaches in the first place. With all the tremendous athletes they recruit because of the Oregon name, they seem to get by..... for now.

Time will tell if the Powells can keep their jobs. But I don't think so, pressure will have them moving on. They will succumb to the big time college pressure, unfortunately.

That said, Oregon is a major violator of recruiting rules. They have brought Nike agents to campus that hint to recruits that there can be some financial incentive post-college if they go to Oregon.

Oregon isn't even above recruiting athletes from other college teams. They just do so in very discrete ways. And people can say it happens at every school, but not at the level that I've heard of it happening at Oregon.

Andy is by the books. He gets everything cleared by the athletic department before he acts. Rumors like this are just slander.

Being closer to the program than you; and actually speaking with many of the athletes, current, and incoming, and their PARENTS, many times...and hearing them speak specifically about the Powells...

I can't remember the rules. Can anyone tell me if this is an NCAA violation? Can you talk to a junior in HS before July 1?

Exactly. It's been stated time and again the team thing here is not important to her. And all the "keep her grounded" comments by her Dad are a joke. Fly around the country, pay AlSal a collegiate salary. Yeah. Grounded.

She should go pro immediately. Go to JC, maybe a local college. Run now and strike when you hot. Not to be sexist but in 10-20 years she'll be having kids and probably be a stay at home mom.

My guess is she goes Ivy or Stanford.

The only way I can see her going to Oregon is if she has already "caught the spirit" by being a Jordan fan...and having now raced at Hayward.
