Hodgy- I am not even sure that it is a theory. It is just what they do. They communicate with grunting noises. Simon Karori is like a drill Sargent. Each grunt is move faster.
They then exchange sharing the lead. They are focused on that paycheck. That is why they are here.
Fred- Elly Rono runs one hour each morning at 5 min pace usually at 4:30-5:30 am(hot in Durham the last 2 months) Then again at 7:00 pm.
Tues same morning run, 7:00 pm track workout last week 7 x mile @4:38per; the week before 10 x 1000m @ 2:45
Sun 2 to 2.5 hr run finishing fast.
We spoke with Paul Tergat when he was here to visit his brother in NJ, and Elly is simulating his training. He is going to try 40 x 400 at 62 sec in several weeks. He is scheduled to run Chicago. He paced Boston for 16 miles, won Grandmas in 2:10 with 5 months of Tergats training. The other guys compete at shorter distances and race more frequently and mainly do tempo runs at progressively faster pace. Starting at 6:00 down to 4:30.
