I'm a male. I out-kicked a female at the end of a race. Am I evil?

It's not about being ruthless. But it is a "race"! After 40 years of running in these gatherings called races...I still try to out kick ANYONE within striking distance in any race I'm in. It's nothing personal...and I respect all runners.

I will concede that guys who are obviously much older than me do tend to cause me to try a little harder or women in general.

And personally, I do not like the idea of another runner letting me go ahead at the finish because they think I'm in some special category. We're in a race for god sake! Finish as high as possible.

subfive nailed it. this is how it should be. All you "etiquette" people need to realize a race is a race and you should never apologize for beating someone to the line as that should be the goal.

I've seen Caster Semenya out-kick females more than a few times, and I wouldn't call Caster an evil person.

So why not take 1:03 off your time? You act like sprinting at the end of races somehow prevents you from more significant improvement. There is no conflict between the two. It's not like saving yourself at the end will make you run a minute faster next week. There is no connection.

At any chip timed race, start back a few seconds from the line....maybe 10 or so. You can beat all the yahoo's who sprint past you at the end by just following them in a couple of seconds behind them.

That isn't exactly what I said. I suppose it depends on how I'm feeling, but I'm generally going to try harder to kick if it means finishing in the top 10 of a decent sized road race in the area than I would if I were coming down the homestretch of a mega big city race and trying to make the difference between 110th place and 108th.

I'd rather get the 110th and take less of a chance of injury and then enjoy my run tomorrow. Admittedly, I'm not as hardcore as some of the other runners here, but I do enjoy racing. I'm usually well towards the front of the field, but occasionaly do finish behind women (can be a nice view though).

Where you finish is up to you personally when I am finishing the race if I see any males I will try and sprint past them in the end, just to beat them. On another note while being female I see a decent looking guy running then pass him in a race, I think aww man he's to slow, but it wold be great to date someone who can run with me all the time just saying. ;)

In a 10k race, I passed 2 guys just before the 6mi mark. The same guys tried to sprint past me and we all crossed the finish line at the same time. I ended up beating one of them, and the 2nd guy was about 15sec ahead of me (based on chip time). I don't mind if a guy tries to outkick me. However, I do know that they were trying to sprint hard because they didn't want to lose to a girl in front of spectators.

There are very few females who appreciate males that finish too fast for them.

Yea, that's pretty pathetic. If you were even halfway decent, no chick should have been close to you.

chicks get all mad when they get straight up bro'd at the finish line. like we're expected to step aside and curtsy to let them pass us. i'm a gentlemen in real life, always holding open doors for ladies i don't even know, but during a RACE, it's on sista, you're gettin smoked like a salmon at the finish line.

You ran what you were capable of, and you just happened to beat her at the very end. You would have kicked had she been a guy, right? No harm in that, although she might have snickered at your unnecessary machismo. I know I would have.

What begins to kinda be douchey is drafting off the girl for the entire race, then out kicking her, especially when there is absolutely no gain for the guy, besides a couple seconds time. I've had that happen to me many times, most notably in the Clontarf Half Marathon in Dublin. It was out and back along the shore and very windy on the way back. Some guy rode my shoulder for all but the first 2 miles. I was doing all the work. I even tried to slow down to get him to pass me. He out kicked me in the last 100m to run a 1:23:20 to my 1:23:30. He placed maybe 20th? I was first female by a long shot. Way.To.Go, @ss. I thought it was kinda pathetic that he had to rely on me to run a sub-par time.
