When you run 17:50 but get the second place prize, $50 cash, since 7 of the 8 guys that beat you are either high school or college runners.

When this happens after a 5K/Half Marathon-

I like the one about the raffle prizes being better than what the winner gets.

Or age group winners get something better than second place overall.

You also know it's a local fun run if people, including the announcer giving out the prizes, have no clue of the pace of the winner or any concept of what a fast time is.

Free junk food buffets before and after the race. I've seen Krispy Kreme, Chic-fil-a and Hardees, among others.

...when you win the 10k race (at a 5k/10k event), only to find yourself listed in 8th place in the results. Places 1-7 had registered for the 10k, and decided to only complete the 5k distance on the out & back course. Despite pointing out to the race director that their times of 23:45-28:30 for men & women, several over 50 years old and 200 lbs,) indicate that something is amiss in his results, he does not care enough to correct the results, and awards the top 3 cash prizes to the sub 25:00 10k finishers.

...when over a mile of your race involves dodging the walkers & joggers in the other race, since the race director didn't bother to space the start times out enough. You mention it to them afterward, and they have no concept of why it would really matter...

please tell me that actually did not happen with awarding prize money to the 5kers?

I don't get it -- what is it about these people that offends you? Is there something wrong with going to a race alone? Or is it that they run "too fast"? Why is that bad?

Or do they actually ask you to literally kiss their shoes? If they do that, then I guess I understand why you'd be offended.

When you realize that you have probably never volunteered

to help out with a local race

Your 10k splits go 5:05, 5:05, 5:05, 5:05, 5:05, 6:35, :58...and if you bring up the possibility that the course may have been long (or the mile markers are off) the RD tells you you probably just slowed down a bit at the end.

The 10k has the same start line and the same finish line as the 5k, and neither course has an out-and-back section--what are the odds the courses worked out like that perfectly?

FYI - the race starter was Black.

When the finish line "official" asks for your name and bib number... before you cross the finish line.

When wearing split-shorts singles you out as "the guy to beat"

When the "4-miler" is actually 2.89 miles.

When the race director gives the awards to the winners of the kids division because, "not enough serious runners were in the race."

When their is no finish line marked, you just stop when you get back to where you parked your car.

These were all from the same race.
