I was hoping someone would express this perspective because the majority of the responses in this thread were rather pathetic.As an aside, you have to wonder about the impact that final scene from "About Schmidt" had on sponsoring orphaned children. My guess is, a substantial increase.

a) we can all make a positive impact on someone else's life, and maybe that should be the goal for all?

b) even if only a "few people" care if you die, i.e., you only positively impact a few people, if the impact you make is a big one, that's just as important as smaller impacts on lots of people's lives

That's the true measure of greatness and fame. Every king of Egypt has been dug up. King Richard the 3rd was recently dug up. Yasser Arafat was dug up. Charlie Chaplin was dug up and held for ransom. Sammy Davis Jr. was dug up to get his jewelry to pay his debts. Daniel Boone may or may not have been dug up and reburied, so now two graveyards claim his corpse. Digging up Shakespeare remains a popular idea.

If you're really great, they'll wonder if it's really you buried there, or want to study your DNA or figure out what you really died of, or some other controversy. Or grave robbers will loot your tomb. The great Genghis Khan knew this and had everyone who knew where he was buried executed, so that he can never be dug up. Otherwise, he'd have been dug up long ago.

At least 6, as much as 20. All of them are family members. Several coworkers would probably be sad, but get over it within 3 weeks.
