Does nayone have a top ten indoor 600 meter list?

What did Solomon and Symmonds split for 600 in London? I bet both were faster than 1:15.42. Not sure. The indoor 600 is soft still is even after Loxsom "record" run yesterday.

The most important thing to look at right now is how does this compare to last year and how does it compare the guys like Aman, Sowinski and Solomon. With out a doubt this tells you Cas is in world class shape, probably in the mid 46 for the 400m and/or high 1:45 for 800m...that is the important take-a-way.

Btw, 300m track is an appreciable advantage for an event like the 600m.

Regardless of track size a great race. The track community should find a way to celebrate top performances rather than attack the runner's school, or the individual runner.

Loxsom always looks great early, then come may / june he tanks. Lets wait and see this year!

It's clear that this silly boy has a serious axe to grind with PSU that has nothing to do with the current topic and probably predates Cas's birth.

While I love to rib a Big Ten foe just like the next guy, your mischaracterization of Penn State athletes is laughable. Anyone who thinks that posting under the name "Sowinski who?" was an attack on him or his school is beyond delusional. It's difficult to take anything you say seriously (and indeed, no one here really does) when you so harshly undercut your own arguments with your stupidy aplenty.

the only problem the haters have on here with PSU is with the unfortunate scandal that occured last year, which has nothing to do with any track athletes OR coaches, as well as any other athlete at this institution, yet the athletes themselves continue to pay for it. gtfu!

caslox is positioned to do something this year.

it takes aerobic ability to extend from 600m to 800m.

has cas improved aerobically?

if so, add him to the expanding list of 143 guys.

Except that a Banked 200 is as advantageous at 600m as an OT, so he gets an AR from those who think.

I think you are right. A 1:15 point indoors on an oversized track and his 400m speed indicate 1:43 potential outdoors. I hope he gets this time.

1:45.3 4th at NCAA in 2011 is not exactly tanking.

He is fit and as likely as anyone to be the next 1:43 American outdoors.

Did Lee Evans ever try an outdoor 800m? With that 600m, who knows what he could have run.

The fact that the distance isn't contested by that many of the big guns at their peak doesn't mean that this time is insignificant. He just ran faster than our two 1:42 guys from last year.

Loxsom lacks the patience and poise rquired to run 1:43. 4 more months then he'll be punching the clock 9-5.

Perhaps but I like his racing style. He goes to the front and tries to hold on. If you are a top 800m runner in peak fitness in the summer, and you have the courage to do so, this is a way to throw down and take all other race factors out of the equation like when to go around someone or trying to avoid being tripped etc. Some historical perspective here relates to the 600 yard race that the best NCAA runners would run in 1:09 point. Cas ran this pace, albeit on an oversized track, and kept going for 50 plus meters to complete the 600. The guys who ran 1:09 point were some of the toughest runners in the NCAA then. Just really really strong and fast 400m runners who by the way I doubt ever ran more than 20 miles a week. The talent in the 800m in the US is scary if we can support guys like Cas who give it their all and have the speed endurance to hang on. I don't care what school he goes to. Just like the way he runs and the times the posts.

Listen, I've been a huge fan of Cas since his sophomore year of hs. I loved his go for broke attitude and the way he ran hard all the time. But in high school he went after the state record several times and came up short partially because I think he raced too hard too often. Just like he always seems to go hard from the gun in a race, he always seems to go hard from the beginning of the season and while he has run fast, he has been inconsistent when it counts. I would think by know he would have the confidence to try a difference approach to his season and his races and be more patient and to give himself a better chance at the end. I have no doubt he can compete with the best in America (and maybe the best in the world) but running multiple races hard in January/ February doesn’t mean much in July/ August. I’ll always root for him and I hope he makes his way to become one of the best in America.

You're right. Cas doesn't know how to hold back. He doesn't have a coach that knows how to hold him back, or maybe he doesn't care. Cas runs like a racehorse without a jockey. That's the Penn State way. There is hope though. Look at the racing styles of the freshmen and sophomores. They pace themselves then come on strong during the last lap. It works. It makes you wonder if Cas went to a school that really has a middle d tradition (Georgetown, Nova, Virginia, Indiana, Arkansas) how could he would be?
