Galen Rupp pulls out of this weekend's AR 5000 attempt- question is why?

I have written so often that the guy scratches, DNSs and DNFs more races than any other runner at his level.

Every time, some fanboy rushes to defend Iron Rupp, who would race through pneumonia and torn ligaments in hail before not finishing a race he's entered.

And then, he does it again.

A number of International Runners base themselves in Europe for the winter and summer meet., Lot easier hopping over three state size countries than hopping across the Atlantic to get to a meet.

Why not call Salazar? Is no one from Letsrun in a position to approach or dare to approach him?

This is stuff that just kills interest in the sport and the sport.

A guy goes 4-24 from the field in an NBA game , he has to sit and answer inane quesions.

Guys scratch from events, drop out of races and otherwise? Where is the accountability, or if not that at least the coverage?

Rupp shows up and races, I would like to see his record of DNFs some point to.

Sometimes he does. Sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he shows up and doesn't start. Sometimes he starts and doesn't finish.

That's one DL race per year, minimum. How many DL races did he finish those same years? Not many

If you show up to watch Rupp run in the Diamond League you have about 50:50 odds of him actually crossing the finish line.

Is it true that Rupp is running the 3k instead?

Rupp is just a bit sick. Viren was sick quite abit back in the day too. These are two athletes that inspite if losing the genetic lotery, managed to become quite successful out of the pure will to win.

Rupp needs to learn form guys like Farah and Lagat. He doesn't have that instinct at this time.

When Rupp was a frosh, he fell in a 5000 and got up and finished to run 13:50ish. A week or so later he ran the AJR for 10,000 in 28:15 and split the secon half in something like 13:50-13:55.

As a senior he ran the 5000-10000 double at ncaas. Someone stepped on his shoe. He stopped, pulled the shoe back on, caught back up and blew the doors off everyone to win his approx. 7th ncaa title.

FYI, he dropped this race because the race he signed up for basically fell apart on him, not his choice. And he's going to go for 3000 instead now.

People are quick to hate, slow to use an open mind. I would recommend that people consider why Rupp has been so healthy and consistent over the past decade. Perhaps it's because he has the discipline and wisdom to listen to intelligent people and make intelligent decisions as oppossed to trying to fulfill some idea of a badass runner. Look, you can only be such a badass table tennis player and you can only be such a badass long distance runner. It might serve you better to make progression and be in the right races with the right fitness than to be a tough guy in a meaningless race.

If you want to find a badass runner, join a local fun run and look for the guys who take off from the gun and disappear by a half mile. Those are the real badasses. Worthless runners but tough as hell in their own minds.

You have selective memory. When Rupp falls down he gives up. That is his current solution to falling in a race.

In addition to the times nice drivell mentioned, don't forget him falling in his first and only half marathon, and getting up to still run something like 60:30.

So, you're saying that if he falls or loses a shoe in a slow race where he blatantly outclasses the competition, he'll still finish, "blowing the doors off everybody."

But if he gets bumped in a Diamond League race against faster runners, not so much.

Meanwhile, Farah goes down hard, but still gets up an finishes, even if he's knows he can't get the win. This is the difference between Rupp and guys who haven't been coddled their whole career. Face facts. His DNS/DNF record is unapproachable in the big leagues.
