Somehow I doubt someone having sex with a professor is being treated equally with the other students. Maybe the students are in competition with each other or not - depends on the class (grading on a curve) or situation (access to recommendations, fellowships, grad school, and other opportunities), but it certainly could affect other students by giving one student opportunities in exchange for sex and removing those opportunities from other students.
With a coach/athlete situation where people are almost always in competition for scholarships and other opportunities it certainly may affect other athletes.
I don't know anything about the details of this situation, but there are good reasons why coach/athlete and professor/student relationships are discouraged even if everyone is an adult.

lies, she is a good person, you cant be a nasty, hateful, racist person and be able to recruit, the parents of the athlete and the athlete would be unlikely to want to be coached by a person with those traits, in non revenue sports fundraising is important, nasty, hateful racist people would not be good at fundraising, also you have community relations, schools wont hire someone who would be considered an embarrassment to the university.

Douglas, some of the nastiest people I ever worked with could be the most charming and personable to the people they wanted to ingratiate.
It is the "little people", the "non-important people" that they are nasty with.

They obviously did hire her and now she is an embarrassment to the university, which is why she was fired. BTW, this was known by the university long ago but Penn State situation made her a liability to UT.
Also, there are many recruits that UT lost out on because of her. Just ask Sisson or any other assistant coach who has worked under her.
All this crap seems so trivial to me after I realized that I could have had SFH for 600 bucks. I am still bewildered why it didn't get a black page.

This occurred 8-10 years ago with a consenting adult? I dunno, maybe there ought to be a statute of limitations on such a case. Happens all the time with college profs and students (that said, individual Departments or faculty committees, etc, tend to look down on these things and will sometimes issue sanctions of their own, e.g., force a leave of absence, resignation, or firing).
My school, a lot smaller than UT had our athletic director recently "resign." Everyone around pretty much knew shew was banging people within the athletic department. Our president here is apparently no joke and was not having it. It did cause some conflict within staff members which is understandable with the conflict of interests. A different situation but interesting also. She did a great job here with our athletic program. Most sports got better and so did our facilities. Sucks she had to go but that's just how it is. If you want to be a skank that's fine, but keep it out of work. She did dress like a ho to though lol. You knew she was messing around before you even began to know her.

On a UT trip, I think; pretty horrific accident. Dec 26, 2002. Two people killed, including the parent(s) of a very young child whom she latter adopted. Bev was paralyzed, maybe there was a fourth person in the car but I cannot remember. It is my impression from the timeline that I have seen that the affair was from before the accident and the accident might have effectively cut it short. Note: I have NO inside info, just have read closely the releases and remember the prior news (2002).

Lets simply this , its a lawsuit , minimize the damages by showing no hesitation when the inappropriate behavior issue surfaces. Fear factor comes from possibility of NCAA sanctions to entire athletic department possibly hurting football the revenue generator.
Bev is paid out , gets to "resign" , university lawyers talk NCAA down , athlete gets paid out ( settles ) to drop lawsuit , back to business.

Imani. Sadly, Ilrey Sparks and Muriel Wallace did not survive the accident. The accident left Kearney with paralyzing injuries and a huge responsibility; Bev became the legal guardian and caregiver for Imani Sparks. They both live with fellow survivor Michelle Freeman.
