I took the OPs intent as a country other than the USA.

I agree so many wonderful people and places here in the USA. Go out in search of small town America. See if you can find towns that have street names that make sense like New Cemetery Road, High Street and Main Street(that actually is the main street). Places that have a Hogan's General Store, John and Son Barbers and the Presbyterian Church has a pancake breakfast every Sunday morning.

Talk to families that work the land pasture the cows or butcher the pigs. Go walk under the stars, smell the flowers, breath deep the odor of freshly turned soil smile and say hello sit down and do nothing for an afternoon and if your crotch itches scratch it no one will judge you or think it's any thing else than scratching an itch in you crotch

I've been to the Western US and I agree there are some amazing places.

Personally, though, I have found other places abroad that I think are superior.

Norway, for example, is probably the most beautiful country I've ever been to. The Namib desert is a pretty spectacular place as well; the red sands at dusk and dawn are really impressive.

I think the deserts and geography of Southern Jordan are more impressive than similar places in Arizona or New Mexico (not including the Grand Canyon, which can't be beat in my opinion). And there are numerous countries in the world with breathtaking mountain ranges.

And then there are the beaches and islands that abound around the world. Sure Hawaii and California have some alright beaches, but I don't think they can even rival beaches found in the southern islands of the Caribbean or even Mexico, much less beaches in SE Asia or the South Pacific.

Woah, Country Club wannabe is something else. He was the guy who said he had been to over 50 countries in the last few years and now he posts the most obvious comments that make m agree with the others that he is either a liar or a fool. I've been to southern Jordan, and can't imagine anyone saying that it's beauty comes close to that of Bryce, Zion and the other wonders of Utah and Arizona. There may be breathtaking mountain ranges elsewhere, but no need to go the the Andes, European Alps or Asia when we have the Rockies and mountains of Alaska right here, and they are the envy of the world.

They're nice, huh? One of my favorite areas in the world.

I don't think Bryce holds a candle to that, but that's just my subjective opinion.

Anyway, you can't exactly argue with what I've said regarding my opinion concerning natural beauty (or the majestic theater of Petra itself, but you can go and make asinine remarks in a very similar vein to those other posters and completely discredit yourself.

Continuing on with the actual theme of the thread before one troll attempted to completely derail it:

One of my favorite cities is Beijing. China as a whole has so much to offer that you could spend months and years exploring the outer reaches and everything in between, but for those with limited time I think Beijing is a fascinating conglomeration of both old and new China.

You can spend days in the city visiting all of the iconic sites and then take a day and go outside of the city to the Great Wall. I did a 10k hike on a section starting in Simatai. Here the wall hasn't been restored as much and is actually in ruins (or at least it was as of 2007, not sure what, if any, changes may have taken place since). It's also a bit further out of the way and doesn't draw nearly the same crowds that you may find in places like Badaling.

You can see the wall snaking along the mountain tops way off into the distance on a clear day.

And after 10k or so, you can even go off on a side section of the wall and zipline off over a river if you're so inclined (ha, I'm sure the zipline haters will jump on that!).

Then there are lots of interesting shows and foods to eat. Near Tienanmen Square there are loads of little backroad places and markets you can explore for hours on end.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there. I found Beijing a bit more difficult to get around that other places in Asia and English didn't get me that far, but a few phrases and hand gestures and some help from a Chinese friend (and stranger on more than one occasion) was sufficient.

Really cool place to visit if you ever get the chance.

FACT: It is very possible to have visited all of the countries CC claims to have visited. I personally know people who have done so. On their own dime.

I tend to believe CC just because I have also been a part of the "backpacker culture" at times and his claims are small compared to what I have actually seen people do all the time.

Is cost really what makes it so unbelievable? I think there are way too many misconceptions about cost and traveling.

Like I said on my first post, I spent 2600 USD for a THREE MONTH trip to Guatemala and the countries around it, including flight tickets!

I would be very hard pressed to live in the US on that same budget and enjoy the things I enjoyed there (tons of activities and entertainment and education).

And another guy shared his experience with living off something like 10 bucks a day in Africa.

Certain areas of the world can be far, far cheaper than staying in the US.

Hell, just give up your daily starbucks and your bar tabs for a few months and you could probably have a helluva trip to Central America at the least if you live in the US or Canada!

But no, I think most people think you're lying because you've been to lots of places and have also been to the highlights of those places, information on which can be found on NatGeo's website. I guess they think that NatGeo profiles amazing places and that any person who travels to those countries would make it a point to avoid those amazing places. Therefore, if you had actually traveled to those countries you would not have been to the places NatGeo has profiled. (Sarcasm. If you can't detect it.)
