IMO -I think the age grading results would better define who had the better performance.
(Magill ran 14:45 at age 49, which McMillan equates to a crazy 24:18 8k.)
This equation is putting in a track time to equate to a possible road time. This is the apples to oranges.
In checking the records just happen to be run on the same course.
Deena ran 14:54 on Carlsbad 5k course
Nolan Shaheed ran 15:36 on Carlsbad for the 50-54 record.
I already stated that I started by entering the two Spences times into McMillan's calc to get 5k marks. Entering Magill's track 5k should convert equally because it uses the same formula. McMillan does not ask for or take into consideration whether a mark was achieved on a track or he roads.
The only flaw in my comparison was the one I pointed out: that the 5k for women is contested more by a larger pool of capable athletes. Age grading is victim to this same fact, but in no lesser or greater degree.
Had I known about the Carlsbad course being the race for both records, I guess I would have used it. I find that to be a fun bit of track trivia, and it makes me want to run Carlsbad since it is obviously a very fast course.

FYI- having run Carlsbad, it's not the fastest having hair-pin turns and rolling. The atmosphere (crowds) is what brings the times .
