Jesus Christ. There's a guy named Frank Schleck who finished 6th, 5th, and 3rd in 2008, 2009, and 2011 respectively and was disqualified from the race each time. Why the hell was he even allowed into the race after two positive tests AT le Tour itself? Or even the year after flunking his first test?

So the only evidence is to coerce his ex teammates into testifying against him. If they didn't cooperate, then USADA was going to go after them. So they get immunity for ruining Armstrong.

They couldn't get Clemens or Bonds but by god, they were going to get an athlete who won all of his major events outside of U.S.! How does USADA even have jurisdiction to go after him?

It's a sad day. A man is accused and hounded for years and finally, he gives up the fight. It's only 14 years since his first TDF win. They would have gone after him till he was 80. We have a gov't that has absolutely run amok.

I'm not saying he was clean, I'm saying the usada was out to ruin a man for no good reason and a lot of bad reasons.

I really hope the TdF says 'No, Lance is still the winner'

You don't understand that Armstrong passed the testing. "I saw that guy take drugs". The tests show no drugs. How exactly is a human body capable of hiding a drug taken?

I can sit here and say I would never have done that and I am pretty sure many pro riders started out with the same thoughts. However I was never in the position of training my whole life to make it to the elite of my sport, and then finding out that I still couldn't compete without drugs. Some quit, some stayed on in the back of the pack (and then lost their contracts), some gave in and cheated.

I don't like the fact that he has not owned up to doping, but I am not ready to cast him as evil because he took drugs to compete in a sport in which the only way to be successful was to take drugs.

I hate it when people say this stupid shit. Using the Salem witch trials analogy is on a par with comparing someone to Hitler. Witches do not exist, never did, and what occured in Salem was the result of sheer ignorant panic (and, interestingly, drugs -- not EPO but ergotamine). In the case of Armstrong, you have 10 or more people who were willing to testify that he'd doped (at least one already has, and he had nothing to gain by doing so) and no one can say that Lance never tested positive because there is the issue of retroactive testing of frozen samples using newer methods.

Yeah, I'm sure that was exactly their reasoning. Nothing but blood lust and a conscious decision to pursue Lance especially hard because of the MLB failures.

I'm not sure if dozens were going to testify against him but 10 were for sure.

Three things:

1-Somebody is a huuuge dbag. Either the USADA, and other accusers i.e. Tyler Hamilton are lying to try to ruin a man, which if they are, I don't know how they sleep at night. OR Lance is lying and always has been and I also don't know how he sleeps at night.

2-Whoever the accusers were that USADA had lined up against Lance need to come forward to be honest about what they know. If we never know who they are or what their claims were going to be, then that is ridiculous.

3- Nobody wins and none of us still know factually one way or the other.

Yes that's how the game was played and I think as many have pointed out - the professional cyclists were faced with an awful choice in the 1990s - just as were baseball players and track athletes.

But what I can't stand is his sanctimony. Cyclists from the 1960s and 1970s have flat out admitted they doped. Same thing in some other sports.

i think the guy is a total jerk. and that he clearly doped. but he beat dudes who doped too. the whole peloton was doped. he won those tours. he should keep the titles. there is a reason andy schleck wasnt calling for his title after contador got stripped. these guys are all doing it...

Also, I always forget about 2009, probably because I hate Lance so much, but that is one of the greatest endurance achievements I can possibly imagine. With his huge layoff, his age, fame, the media circus, being a total dick to his teammate, etc. he still got third, drugs or not dr....okay, with drugs, but still.

On a running website we are hanging a cyclist out? Really? Rojo? Have you turned your TV on during a Saturday or Sunday during the fall? Is this the real issue in sports? Going after a 40 year old retired cyclist is a distraction from real doping. Real journalism would strive to show the massive drug use in the NFL, NCAA, NBA and MLB. Non-revenue generating sports like cycling and track and field are oddly enough the only ones which test for and have any real doping penalties. In the mainstream sports you can just take 60 days off or they just don't care to test. Let's focus on something relevant rather than pointing the camera at someone who is not going to win another championship, and effectively take all the blame for doping while 1000s of athletes get a blind eye. I am so disappointed our tax dollars have been wasted on such a worthless witch-hunt when there is such a clear need for doping control in money generating sports.
