Steroids work, even on Kenyans'
This I don't get. Everyone knows steroids do not work that well on male distance runners. That's why East German doping regime was only really effective on females. Additionally you mainly see steroid bans on sprinters. As steroids are easier to detect than EPO it does not rally make sense
Only a life ban would have any effect on these dopers though. I would have then shot!
May be the tip of a large iceberg.

Um check your facts. The East German steroid program was hugely successful for Male distance and middle distance runners. If you pour through all the files that were released after the wall came tumbling down, they even developed a "mist" oral steroid that they could take 5 days before the championship and still pass the drug test. They won scores of Olympic and World Championship medals. The success of the tiny little country was staggering on the men's side in the distances:

The oldest trick in the book is for users/suppliers/coaches is to say drugs don't work. In the USA the policy of the American Medical Association was to say steroids don't work but the users knew they worked remarkably well. When anyone tells you they don't work (e.g Arnold saying they only give you a psychological benefit, etc.) you should suspect the person who is saying they don't work.

Ah the ole oral mist 5 days out, that will help you peak perfectly. When I was young and idealist and naive I used to read T&FNews with awe about how the East Germans peaked perfectly at the championships, like at the 1980 Olympics when everyone was talking Coe-Ovett and Strabb beat Ovett to get the silver medal. We thought is was special training they were doing to peak perfectly.

East German's were successful because they had the best training programs - period.
Any drugs they took did nothing for them, and held them back if anything.
Proof, their fastest marathoner ran 2:09, which would be only a slow marathon these days internationally. Certainly Cierpienski did not need anything special to run 2:09 and beat the FS the whiner, who by the way never even bettered 2:10.
Look at his jaw/chin. Very typical steroid user jaw/chin.
Nothing new here. In the USA we have all these anti age clinics. You can become a super athlete under your doctor's supervision.
